Hurrah, the thread is not dead (unlike the sandwich maker).0

Just for everyones information. ASDA have conceded that cheese should not have made its way into the electrical unit of the device and have agreed to refund all costs incurred.0

Good news all!

You too can have a cheese toastie maker like I used to....0 -
Cheesy jokes aside I would like to know the outcome of this case. This is serious stuff. You have a right to buy a decent device from any shop and this toaster clearly failed to meet its expectations. I feel perhaps a boycott of any toasting devices from Asda may be required should this be a common occurrence. So important questions need to be answered:
1. What actual damage was there to the RCD?
2. Are Asda paying for it?
3. What other costs were incurred
4. How could cheese get into a properly designed sandwich toaster? If this is true, could it really cause a short? What is the electrical resistance of cheese?0 -
I hope you have ordered dozens - one for each toastie you hope to make. And that you have an electrician on speed-dial for the resulting fuse-box explosion.
Top tip - don't put Roquefort cheese in your toastie as it oozes oil when it melts.0 -
In the meantime I have found this: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_cheese_conduct_electricity
"Yes, cheese is in fact a very good conductor of electricity, but must kept at a temperature of around 0 degrees, due to the fact the electrical current releases thermal radiation and causes the cheese to melt, which effectively increases the resistance of the cheese and therefore decreases the current. cheese has been known to power factories and other powerhouses as an environmentally friendly way of producing electricity. The most effective way of utilising cheese is in a cheese factory itself by recycling unwanted cheese back into the system. However like most things, the cheese degenerates over time, as well as become less pure as it reacts with the materials that the apparatus it is held in.I recommend Blue cheese and other mouldy cheeses like Stilton as the mould prolongs the life time of the cheese."
