ASDA - Cheese Toastie Complaint.

I'm going to play devils advocate here.
How do I know that they were properly qualified ?
Also, we need to be very clear here. The fault with the RCD was caused by excessive cheese in the electrical compartment of the toaster.
How did it get into the compartment of an electrical device?
So - The "Root cause" would be the fact that the electrical item ingressed cheese.
If you end up in court they will produce evidence showing the qualifications and competence of the person who carried out the examination for them.
And lets be clear. The fault with your RCD may have been triggered by the problem with the cheese getting into the electrical compartment of the toastie machine, but that doesn't mean it was caused by it. A properly functioning RCD that has been correctly installed won't be ruined by a toastie machine shorting.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Yes, but the RCD will have a current rating equal to or greater than the current rating of the main fuse for the consumer unit which will be far greater than the current that could be caused by a single appliance on a 13 plug. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Unless whoever fit it failed to apply discrimination properly...
It could well be the RCD was fine, but the main fuse or MCB was incorrectly sized and the OP was running lots of other devices at the same time.
Or maybe the RCD was indeed faulty, we have no way of knowing.*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0 -

Ok, well in that case it is now their sandwich toaster and you have no right to have it back.
Personally I believe I have every right - As this was only done so they could get it into their system.
And if that wasn't the case, I've been tricked, and that's another cause for concern.0 -
Surely you should be more anxious about getting your own RCD checked, than working out who's at fault?0

You will have to move:rotfl:0 -
Here at Preston faulty goods are replaced or refund given without question and that is one of the reasons I use them quite often.
You will have to move:rotfl:
If you'd read the thread, you would see he already has a refund.
You've clearly had a faulty RCD, and I like Asda's approach - they're probably waiting for you to waste money on a report, and then they'll blame the RCD for blowing and not just tripping.
It's quite clear a faulty electrical device shouldn't blow an RCD - the point of an RCD is to trip, and it should be able to deal with a faulty toaster.0 -
I was really hoping this was going to be one of those mad threads that occasionally come up - about a poor cheese toastie.
I could almost smell the meatballs.
Imagine my disappointment when I see some techie discussion about RCDs - about which I know nothing.
Oh well, sure a mad one will be along before long.0
