I have to agree with Bazzi; the emails - particularly the later ones - were sarcastic and unpleasant. It's a toaster; a refund has been given. Let it go.

What are you hoping for OP? For a large sum of 'compensation' for putting your life in danger? I would think that that is unlikely to happen.

I do not consider the "Refund" in this debate. This was something I had to do to get it through their system. If I could give them the £3.97 to put the ball back in my court I would do.

My ideal scenario - That ASDA admit that Cheese, under normal usage shouldn't have made its way into the electrical system.

    And then what?

I think they have accepted that the toaster was faulty and given you a refund which is the appropriate redress.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Sorry, but you've lost me now. Originally you wanted the return of the toaster, though they had refunded the cost, so that you could prove that it was the failure of this item which caused the problem with your electrics. Now you want to know how/why the toaster failed.

    Which do you want?

If you want recompense for the cost of the damage to your electrics then you will need to follow asdas procedure for recovering the toaster in order to get an independent report. You would also need a report about the failure of your RCD - see my previous (unanswered) question. You would need to prove the cause and effect to have a valid case.

If you have decided to accept that the faulty toaster was simply the catalyst for the failure of an also faulty RCD then what on earth difference does it make how cheese managed to get where it shouldn't? Buy a toastabag from Lakeland and get on with life.

If cheese got inside the toaster, you were using too much cheese. It is that simple.

The toasters seal the bread around the filling, the only way it could get into electrics if if there was too much filling so the bread didn't seal properly or used bread that was too small to allow a seal to be made.

Toasties shouldn't have so much filling that it comes out the side, it should all be contained.

When I worked in a kitchen we used basic shops own brand toasty makers and used cheese, beans and other runny fillings but never put so much in that the bread didn't seal.

£3.97?!? I thought it was a toaster the OP had bought that was faulty - not a cheese slice that leaked.

Ye gods. Let it go, OP. Life's too short. Or get a qualified independent electrician to contact them, as ASDA has suggested; though expect it to cost you more than £3.97.

This happening in a house with only fuses (like most of the housing stoke in the UK) may have caused a fire.

Maybe a note to trading standards because of the cheese ingress to electrical area should not have happened - design fault, as this sort of thing should have been anticipated.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

    This is hilarious.

OP, you should get out more.

There was cheese where it shouldn't have been. Just accept your refund and move along. Asda sure as hell didn't put the cheese there, how do YOU think it got there ?

A bit of simple advice for you OP...................

Just forget about it & move on with life.

Oh and buy another toastie maker. A bit dearer than your Asda one but the one from Argos is £4.49, & still a bargain!
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9015814.htm

Be sure to have a new RCD system in place before you plug it in though! Another similar thread in a few months only this time titled "ARGOS- Cheese Toastie Complaint." perhaps?!!!

Ooo - I can just imagine the sequel - Probably a much bigger budget too!

On another note, I think that some of the people that are being rather targeted with their opinion of me may be being slightly harsh in their estimation of me.

Its a shame I don't have the operational guidelines for how much cheese should be used.
