  • Hiya! Sounds great on the oil. Mum always tries to convince dad to buy more coal during summer and stock up for winter as they have endless storage space. He refuses, then pays more in winter. Funny old bloke..

I love that you had money set aside. I do enjoy that part of YNAB but I have to say I keep dumping it all into 'savings' as a whole rather than set categories! Not really using it as I should eh!

    Hope you're ok :)

I already had four savings pot in my online account so have just renamed them. Truthfully there is one rainy day pot where I have put little things like christmas, presents etc but I can always look back at YNAB to see how much there should be in there for each mini pot. I should also say that I am still finding my way with YNAB although I love it. I just want to get rid of the do by christmas, if I can, so that I can start to reconcile the bank account with the checking total.

So - today's mse action has been to look at the food in the store cupboard and to do some form of stock check. Lordy lordy lordy - how did I come to be the pasta food bank? This checklist will help with the meal planning over the next few months and I will do my best to start using some of the supplies up - which will clearly help with the grocery budget!

I have also booked the flights for next year's holiday - and managed to get £90 off due to my flight points. So my flight for next year's holiday comes to a massive £77 with seat reservations and insurance - I can live with that and, more importantly, can budget for that. Now I need to find a cheap and cheerful hotel for us. I already have around 100 euros left over from this year so its a start. I am intending to be mse about this but need something to look forward to next summer.

  • I so wish I could book a foreign holiday. I have not been abroad in donkeys years and the last time was an unmitigated disaster with my ex. Still I miss the clear blue water and the heat and smell of street food.

I was inspired to shift some of my 'Savings' category around. It was a sub-category, not even a master. So now Christmas has some money towards it, as does the potential move in utility companies causing a final bill. And my daughter is richer than me :D lol.

Once my regular saver pays out in January, I will be able to shufty this around into categories. I think I am on hold until then really.

Haven't quite figured out what my budgets SHOULD be each month either, and now my income and outgoings are about to change again!

I did the store cupboard thing. I am the food bank for all things dried. Be they pasta, rice, or lentils/couscous. :rotfl: - I have to keep reminding myself now that the 'white' stuff is ending, that I have to move through these mountains first! :D

    Sleep tight!

I do the same - just put all the money into one savings account but I then have a spreadsheet where I've labelled the columns with how much of the savings is for each "pot".

Don't know if this will work as have only been using YNAB for the trial period and have just bought it this morning.

I've been allocating money properly during the trial period but as I'm off on holiday at the end of the week I've "anticipated" what's happening during September and allocated the money that I know has to go out, ie all the DDs. I know it's not the right way to do things but don't want to have to do it while I'm away as I won't necessarily have internet access.

Denise - I found it difficult to track whilst on holiday but made an adjustment when I got home. However I did find that it changed my mindset and I began to resent paying out! It's only this month that I can begin to use YNAB properly.

Today has been work based this morning but I am determined to do some crafting this afternoon which will be projects for christmas presents. The weather outside is not great but at least it's a NSD and I'm using up some of my fabric stash!

Do tell me what sort of things you craft for presents! I am not entirely useless at these things but lack inspiration in getting started.. :D

I'm lucky I am not going on holiday eh... *Hmmphh* and can use YNAB properly. Think I would rather be having a cocktail somewhere hot that doing my budgets though ;)

Since the presents are going into a hamper I am making sets of fabric coasters for everyone. I have embroidered a little Christmas wall hanging that my cousin admired and am going to attempt a casserole carrier today. Nothing too complex but trying to use up the HUGE stash of fabric that I have.

In terms of a holiday I do feel slightly guilty but I have saved £90 from previous flights / conversion of Tesco clubcard points. This is not going to be an over the top holiday in the least!

Ninno - what's a casserole carrier? The only carrying of a casserole I do is from the oven to the worktop to dish up, LOL!

I also use Tesco clubcard points to help with my holiday - I use them to pay for Eurotunnel for our motorhome and when we get to France we mainly use aires, a lot of which are completely Free, others just a couple of Euros. I think the most we've ever paid is €12 and we don't do that very often! When we paid that amount it was in December and it was really cold so we wanted to stay somewhere with electric so we could put an electric heater on.
