Got a quarter head of this that needs using up. I'm now sick of the sight of it as I've had it with my supper every night for the past 4 days :mad:The joys of living alone
I usually make a veg soup out of carrots, leeks, onion, chuck in a potato if I have one. Will this cabbage work in soup? I remember reading somewhere that there are some veg that don't work too well in soup as they can make it bitter......only trouble is I can't remember which ones !!:o
What i like to do is fry up some chopped bacon and garlic until crispy. Put to one side. Then in a wok (or deep frying pan) is to put the savoy cabbage in a couple of tablespoons of water and steam it for 5 mins. Then add the bacon and garlic and half a pot of either double or single cream. Cook for a further 5 mins till tender. This is delicious with a roast dinner!0 -
Next time you get some chop and blanche it and freeze it in little bags, it'll be fine xxxI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I didn't realise I could freeze it. Got the pan of water going right now to blanche it and stick it out of sight in the freezer. Right now I don't care if I never see cabbage again, so the little darling will be chopped, blanched and frozen, to be liberated in a couple of weeks when I'm ready to face it again!
Thanks!0 -
Its nice in a minestrone type soup, with some bacon, and beans, and parmasan over the top.
I dont bother to blanche it just freeze it as is, and its allways fine?Pawpurrs x0 -
I never bother blanching veggies either before freezing.
I often use up lurking veg by cooking and then chucking in a bowl with a cheese sauce over with some more grated cheese over the top and then baking."Stay Wonky":D

I sliced 2 kg of carrots (with my Kenwood) and froze them without blanching but they didn't taste as nice?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I got my first organic veg box today. It was a bit like christmas discovering what was in it!
Anyway, there's a sweetheart cabbage and I'm the only one who eats cabbage so I'm looking for ways to use it. I'll probably use some in a salad but I need some ideas of ways that I can use it that can be frozen.0 -
