Oh crikey - sorry you burned the cabbage!

Why no......... it's not your fault. I'm just a little poor at cooking new things ............. but I get there eventually:o

I made the Gallette au chou and we both ate it till we were bursting... and there's enough left for tomorrow's lunch. Next time, and there will be a next time because we did like it, I will either make half as much or make it do us for three, or even four, meals each.

I also made a big tub of coleslaw, a large pot of soup (mixture of veg but a fair whack of cabbage) and there is still some left for the stirfry tomorrow.

    Bargain!!!

  • For the last 5 weeks my veg box has included a massive savoy cabbage.I have totally run out of ideas,Can the kind souls on here please help?

So far we have had it with roasts,in soupy noodles, cabbage curry, spiced cabbage, coleslaw,,bubble and squeak, stir fries..can't think what else I have done.

Is it okay to freeze cabbage or will it lose its texture?

    Frozen cabbage is vile IMHO

You can layer up cooked cabbage with sausagemeat then bake it. Sounds weird but it's yummy!

I could eat a whole savoy cabbage each week just to myself! I shred it and saute it with bacon then serve it with a variety of things.

I wouldn't think it would freeze well though

    My only advice...

Keep naked flames away from your bottom :P

    On a serious note....

How about making some of the 0 point Weight watchers soup? Then freeze it.

I'll add this to the existing cabbage thread. Try the cabbage galette - it's delicious :D

Got a quarter head of this that needs using up. I'm now sick of the sight of it as I've had it with my supper every night for the past 4 days :mad:The joys of living alone

I usually make a veg soup out of carrots, leeks, onion, chuck in a potato if I have one. Will this cabbage work in soup? I remember reading somewhere that there are some veg that don't work too well in soup as they can make it bitter......only trouble is I can't remember which ones !!:o

You could try making it into a sort of Chinese/Thai broth - maybe slice it thinly, cook it on a low heat in a frying pan with some fresh ginger, garlic, honey, soy sauce etc, then add some cooked chicken and chicken or veg stock. You could also add some egg or rice noodles.

Steamed savoy cabbage fried in bacon fat and a little butter is gorgeous. You could try asking some of the Eastern European members for some cabbage tips.
