    I'm another stir-fry-er.

Shredded and stir fried with some garlic, and some sweet chilli sauce over it as an accompaniement to whatever you are having. YUM!

I'm with angelavdavis on this one! If you blanch the leaves for a minute or so you can use them to wrap all sorts of stuff, OH likes minced pork with soy sauce and minced onion wrapped in cabbage, or rice with some chopped roasted veg makes a good stuffing too. :o

Also shread it and run it through pasta with some bacon bits.

alternatively I used to make a delicious savoy cabbage pasta dish by jamie oliver - but i can't find the recipe anymore. Can anyone else help????

This is one of our all-time favourite recipes. Its from Return of the Naked Chef.

You fry some pancetta in a little olive oil until golden. (or use streaky bacon if you're being MS but we think pancetta is much nicer)
Then add some garlic and loads of sliced cabbage, put lid on pan and cook gently for 5 mins.
Meanwhile cook and drain some pasta.
Stir pancetta and cabbage into the pasta, mix in some cubes of mozzarella, some parmesan and some lightly toasted pine nuts.

  • I like to peel the big leaves away and use them to make dolmades (greek stuffed vine leaves - yes - I know its stuffed cabbage!)

You sweat a little white onion in olive oil, then add white rice and stock, add a little browned mince (only a little, too much just isn't authentic) and cook until both the meat and the rice are done. Add chopped fresh mint, a grate of nutmeg.

Blanch the leaves in boiling water then drain in a collander. Put a tablespoon of rice mixture in each leaf and roll up (sides to the middle, and then like a cigar)

You can then serve them, freeze them, or top them with a sauce and bake them in the oven.

It sounds a faff on, but its fun and its lush!

    No, no, no...

    this is what to do...

    Chop smallish and shallow fry.
Boil some milk. When it rises add lemon juice till it curdles.
Mix fried cabbage, curd (ie the solids of the milk) and some hing (also known as asafoetida, get it in indian shops).

    Delicious served with rice!

    Hi

Ive got a pointed cabbage and need some help with recipes. I couldnt find much on the search function though so if anyone else has anything please post links.

I did cook a recipe a while back with cabbage, bacon and pasta and im not sure where I got it from but now I cant seem to find anything.

Ideally I would like something that can be frozen and reheated later.

    Thanks guys

Cut up the cabbage as normal.

Chop a couple of tomatoes and put into the saucepan with a decent sized knob of butter. Heat butter and tomatoes for a couple of mins, add cabbage and cook in juice and melted butter - luverly !

Last Saturday I bought one of those heart shaped cabbages, reduced to 66p from original price 99p. Nothing wrong with it at all, just the use-by date.

It has made two of us two generous meals of cheesy bubble & squeak, two large bowls of coleslaw (served instead of veg, with veggie hotdogs and pizza), and there is enough left for another meal for both of us tomorrow. Not decided yet what to do with it, but might be just plain boiled. It is still in perfect condition too.

Ten good servings for 66p - can't be bad! I love cabbage, it is so versatile.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D
