    I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

Temperatures dropped tonight and I can feel dampness in the air. Possible rain tonight, but it'll do the garden well.
Still no heating on though. lol

    Potted a £2 coin and 6 x £1's = £8 to start the week.
2 x £1's were found in the car, so an added bonus.

I haven't posted for a few days, but I have potted £3.92, 26p and £8 over the past week.

I have been looking for a car for 3 weeks and it is driving me mad. I am going to see one tomorrow, and I hope it is ok because I am not looking anymore :(

    I hope everybody is well

2 x £2 coins in the £2 coin tin after 'bamp' (grandad to you and me ;)) was caught with them in his pocket! Miss Lily gave him a stern talking too about how all £2 coins have to go in mummys tin NOT in pockets :naughty:, and then made him change them up with me :rotfl:

Not sure what to suggest Moohound, how old is your DS? mine is 13 and he gets £10 a month and then I pay his £17 a month phone contract on top, is there a subscription of any kind your mum can pay instead of showering him with money? other than that its sticking your hand out each week and telling him he's handing over £2 for savings . . . its a hard one, especially as she's saving all his holiday money as well :( Having a DH with absolutely no money sense i've always believed its a very important life lesson, though saying that, DS will burn through his £10'er the same day it gets paid in his bank, where as DD will still have £3 of her £4 at the end of the month as you have to prise it out of her hand :o. They both know that when its gone its gone though and how they spend it is their business (much biting of lip goes on when DS spends all £10 on sweets though )
The other idea is to ask her to give it to him monthly rather than weekly, though its still alot of money, he will have to budget it or its gonna be a loooooong 30 days with no pennies, though that still depends on your mum not then putting her hand in her pocket when he runs out . . . . , sorry, can't be alot more help than that :o

NDS :A for me today so nothing to pot for me.

Going to have a rant now…..

DS put his £4 pocket money in his tin, it lasted about 3 hours before he got DH to buy him a comic when they walked to the shops for bread, and then he had to pay his dad back.

The £4 was from my mum, I think its too much and 50p would be enough, £1 absolute maximum.

It would be OK I guess if he would save it instead of buying the first piece of plastic tat he sees. She wants to give him £2 a week plus another £2 for doing his homework, but I really think its too much money, and he should do his homework anyway without having to be paid. I have mentioned this to her but she gave him it anyway.

It works out more an hour than I get after tax :rotfl:

She saves coins in a big pot for his holiday spending money as well, so he doesn't even have to bother saving for that either. He ended up with £265 last year.

Every time she takes him out he comes back with a toy, admittedly sometimes from the charity shops.

I feel like i am fighting a losing battle on both sides.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

You don't say how old your DS is atm. When mine were about 6/7 I sat them down and explained about having to budget your money and save for things you had to spend on and for things you wanted, just in a simple way

I worked out what I would spend on the various things over the year, divided by 52 and then they used to get this as their pocket monies each week but had to put some in different tins. They had to save for things like
    • presents for birthdays and Christmas for other people
    • money for days out for ice-creams etc
    • toys and comics for themselves
    • clothes other than school clothes and undies
As they got older it become more complex of course, but it gave them the idea that money had a value and everything costs somebody something. They also enjoyed spending 'their own money' when it came to buying cards and presents.

Maybe his £4 could be divided into savings for something/s and spends ? that way it wouldn't all be wasted eh ;) hth

Had to put one radiator on all week in the hall just for a bit of background heat :( It's really not funny being so early.

Only spending today was at garden centre for bulbs on c/c so no pennies to pot :(

Hope you all have a magical Monday

  • Well,I had to put something in my pot for my birthday,so added £15 that I had set aside over the last few months.
A little while ago I started a thread about the amount of frittering I had been doing: go to the corner store for milk and bread and come out with milk, chocolate biscuits, chocolate bars, and forget the bread :o,go to Tesco for a couple of items and get no change from £20,etc.Well,for a while, anytime I was good and went into a shop, and came out with only what I intended,I would "pay myself" a few pounds as a visual reminder of what I had saved.I only did that for aweek or two,and in that time set aside £15,so that is now potted.:T

    Afternoon all.

We got the rain last night and raining fairly hard now. But as mentioned, the garden will love it!

lynnejk - on a normal day, I'd be putting the heating on! But, I'm putting on an extra layer and that heating won't be going on until November ..................... I hope.

2 x £1 coins potted and that's it for the day. Hoping for a NSD tomorrow.

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a really lovely weekend and are ready to enjoy some more warmer weather this week. {{{Hugs}}} to all who need them, and....keep up that saving! :j

No worries, little_sweetie, life isn't all about SPC...well, not quite all anyway! :D I'm glad you had a holiday too, and that you're feeling relaxed now, hope G is also.

I see you've got your savings all planned right down to the line then, Lynsey, not getting at all fanatical then?! ;) Though isn't that exactly what keeps us all saving so very well - not a bad fault to have!

£48 to have the caravan washed including the roof - blimey!

Flippin heck, that's a bit on the pricey side isn't it, moohound!!! We'll have to rely on a few heavy showers instead. BTW, Re your Mum and DS, not an easy one, but it's you who has to be in control of his development - not your Mum, and although she may see her actions as kindness, it'll do him no good if he grows up without firm knowledge of how to control his spending and definitely his savings! If she persists with the £4 then you have every right to insist that at least half of it is saved. Be firm! :)

What a relief to hear about your DD, Modesty, I'm so happy for you. :grinheart Though what a coincidence about the dogs, I really hope your eldest will come through it all ok. Fingers crossed and {{{{hugs}}}} for you.

Sorry, Lynne, I do remember you saying about visiting your DS now. What heat you had too, I couldn't stick that either, mid 20's is my preference...if choice was permitted! BTW, better weather is coming this week so all being well you can turn the heating off. :j

Best wishes with the car being what you need, 32b3.

Belated Birthday greetings, Saver-upper, I hope it was a lovely one. BTW, that's a great plan to help you to save your cash, keep it up!

Thank you, Kerry, it's wonderful to receive every now and then and certainly adds to my savings.
Stay potting regularly, everyone, the date is rolling ever closer.....just over 10 weeks to go!! forums.moneysavingexpert.com
