We have applied for our mortgage through the Post Office and are slowly loosing patience! We are first time buyers, buying in to a no chain property so it is literally the Post Office who are holding up the process.

    10th July – Applied.
    22nd July – Had AIP.
    1st August – Survey Instructed.
8th August – Sent Payslips and proof of savings etc.
12th Aug – Survey and valuation complete (all fine).

We are now just waiting on them to review all our documents which is taking forever. We have gone through a Financial Advisor also who hasn't been great for providing updates and I would've much preferred to go direct because we can't call the Post Office ourselves to get updates.

    Hi All,

Just to give you a summary of our process:

First time buyer 85% mortgage 3.79 5 year fixed

    4th August full online application
    5th August text application received
18 August application assessed text and valuation instructed text
21 August valuation carried out but unaware, no text of this
21 August request for documentation three payslips for me and copy of contract and p60. For my husband copy of contract, p60, one payslip and wrote to his employer for reference as only started new job end of June
26 August they received all documents
27 August rang for an update and was told offer would be posted out today and valuation came back fine
28 August offer received in post
Got to admit that's VERY frustrating as they received all of our document on 22nd July and only looked at them on Monday (according the the person I spoke to). I was told then that "it would probably take another couple of weeks" before the underwriters report was processed and an offer sent out.

Had I known it would take to so long I would have gone elsewhere - we applied online on 1st July and have a straighforwards case (we aren't even moving, just moving mortgage) - the delays have just been waiting to get our paperwork read by someone.

    Us too.
Don't get me wrong - I'm happy for you that you're all sorted, but it's annoying that they don't actually seem to be dealing with people in an order.

According to their website, they're working post from the 1st of August now! Hopefully it wont be too much longer until they start dealing with some of our applications!
  • I can't recall the exact date but our full application went in at the end of June/beginning July. We were moved to the escalation queue last Friday after making a complaint, offer made on Tuesday and paperwork arrived yesterday. Very relieved it's over. Good luck to everyone still waiting, I hope they get their act together and speed things up.
  • Survey being done today by Countrywide, mmm

So Post Office and Countrywide, what a great combination :(
  • New problem tonight :( previous solicitor was rubbish, lost personal items and just needs to go bust.

Anyway appoint a well respected solicitor from our area, they're not on the Post Office list. Oh !!!!!!, they need to be on the "panel". To me that kind of defeats the point of being independent.

I HATE it and on verge of just saying whatever to the whole process, pulling out of the sale and saying no thanks to the new house. Just a total pain and I can't get excited about any of it. I have a house, a bit small, but leave it at that and get on with the better things in life.

I've spent circa £700+ an amount of money I don't have a care about now.

Yes, rejoining the queue is standard practice, it only really becomes a problem when the queue is so abnormally long!

But in other news... we have our mortgage offer! We had a phone call direct from BoI just now saying it's all approved and the documents are in the post. Social media is awesome, though it shouldn't have to come to that.

Did you just go through the regular Post Office Facebook page to raise this complaint?

Congrats also! I'm pulling my hair out trying to get an update!
  • Survey wasn't done, delayed, but don't know why. Also turns out my solicitor is on the panel. mmm
