  • Hello. Just a word of warning. Their turnaround is 5 days. 5 days to check a paper, 5 days to confirm receipt, 5 days to look at the paper again... It's excruciating, we've been waiting for an offer for over three weeks now. The broker keeps saying everything is OK, but the latest news is that they require a valuation despite the home report being dated end of June (we live in Scotland). We'll be homeless in three weeks if this doesn't go through and given their speed we aren't sure of what's going to happen.
A colleague of mine applied to Halifax directly and took her a bit over a week to get a mortgage offer. I wish I had done the same.

Don't be too sure. I applied direct with Halifax 30th June, and am still waiting! They totally messed up requesting my employers reference, and stubbornly refused to do anything about it until earlier this week (4 weeks exactly after they insisted in requesting it from wrong person despite my protests.). Yesterday they finally resent the forms to correct person and paid me £115 compensation for 'distress and inconvenience.'

We're just lucky there's no pressure on the purchase (no chain), and the vendors are dealing with haven't issued any ultimatums (yet).

We went with Post Office/Bank of Ireland via a broker.

It took two and a half months from application to offer.
    Initial Mortgage July 2015: £170,995
    Current Mortgage: £159,402

They do seem awful at the moment. Waiting for two weeks for a document they say they have posted twice.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

We went with Post Office/Bank of Ireland via their in-house mortgage advisor/broker - valuation booked within 3 days, full mortgage offer in less than 10 days.

    This was in April though.
