I agree - if I had space for one more item it'd be a sausage, or a fishcake, or something.... not a pickled something. Never fancied the way they sit around in the big jars.... too communal for my liking .... lid having been opened multiple times over days/weeks....
I think gherkins are nice. If I thought about it I think I'd rather have fish and a gherkin and three chips. ( soggy ones)
Edit: no, no chips really. Maybe just the gherkin.0

Maybe a question for those that have daughters. At what point do tights become leggings? I have thick black tights that look thicker than some of the leggings that young girls where out and about.
Now I come to think on the question, I think for me the difference would be in the material used. Leggings are a different material from tights, however thick the tights are.lostinrates wrote: »Has been a pretty difficult day.lostinrates wrote: »But, I know we cannot go on like this much longer. You can only do what you are able to do, and you need to remember to look after yourselves too. A hard decision to speak out, but hopefully it will result in improvements for RP as well as for you.
I have an egg poacher pan and love it. Poached eggs on marmite toast, with baked beans on the side and - if I'm feeling really greedy - grated cheese all over the top. 0 0

I am fed up although I know in comparison with other NP I have nothing to complain about. It remains freezing where I work, it is not a heating issue, it was also freezing last week when it was much hotter outside. Being cold makes me sit and hunch giving me a stiff torso and shoulders which then triggers a stiff neck and tension headache.
I hate being cold too. At work the heating system is not very flexible, and frequently has problems, especially with the more remote rooms, and the building is Victorian (at least, the bit I teach in is) and v poorly insulated. If I get too cold, I ask the students if they agree it's too cold, and when they agree we get out a bunch of Bunsen burners and light them. It warms the lab up pretty quickly. I do teach in one (sixth form only) lab that has no gas supply, which unfortunately is one of the rooms that most often gets unreasonably cold, being v remote from the boiler and having a v tall ceiling. I've already decided that if we get any days as cold as the worst of last year again this winter, I'll be getting out the radiant electric heaters that we use for heating experiments. lostinrates wrote: »Has been a pretty difficult day. lostinrates wrote: »Has been a pretty difficult day.
Fir has decided to call RP's doctor and relay the concerns we have. We doubt this will be treated confidentiality and expect some fall out.
Hugs. This is not going to be easy, I imagine. Oldies whose brains aren't functioning as they used to always seem to be very resistant to accepting it. Apart from my mum, who was very realistic about her growing limitations. Her dementia was a processing deficit rather than memory deficit, though, so that may make a difference. If I lose my marbles when I'm old, I'm determined to believe my kids when they tell me what I'm like, and accept help rather than being obstructive. I hope I manage to stick to that.PasturesNew wrote: »When I was growing up we had one of those poaching pans - shallow/wide, with a layer of metal over the water with holes in it, with metal cups in.
We had one of those. Well, my dad still has it. I much preferred it to the one I now have that was in the caravan when we bought it second hand. It's the same sort of design but the little cups are plastic rather than metal, and don't conduct heat well enough. It's impossible to get the white properly set without the yolk going solid. I'm sure the metal ones are better.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres. 0 0

Well, that's the thing Lydia, RP now seems to be becoming rather stupid, not just forgetful. Forgetful is annoying. Stupid is and forgetful is becoming intolerable. Its different to my break in intelligence, I have problems processing and stuff. RP is patient and dedicating in researching and stuff, but.....sort of de intellectualised and de IQ ed it seems. This is nOT how my granny was, ( Alzheimer's) , but funny and quite cunning...though had never been clever, well read or anything liked that. This is different.
Edot : I know becoming more stupid and forgetful is tough and scary, because I live it, but you know, hiding from it only makes things worse. Because you have to find ways to cope better or impact on the people I. Your life least and either delay profession or keep well. I don't blame fear, or anger or stuff. But just keeping making problems fir's and mine cannot keep happening because 1. We cannot afford bills with house and now my potential costs. 2. We have enough stress of our own thanks. 3. Its like teens.....you want the rights?...you got the responsibilities . 0 . 0

I used to have a metal poacher with metal cups. I think I inherited it. I threw it out when I bought my microwave poacher. I now want to throw that out as it causes too many egg explosions in the microwave.
Lakeland sell disposable egg poachets and washable poach pods
Clearly not as easy to use as they claim because they now also sell a lifting tool so you don't burn yourself rescuing your eggs from the water.
PN is welcome to give Lakeland a posh alert, its the sort of shop you wonder round without actually buying anything. I always think it is full of overpriced cooking stuff people have managed without for centuries.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When I was growing up we had one
Could you do this or an approximation of for a meal for yourself? Do you have any freezer space yet for things like muffins?
I like a poached egg or dry fried when I'm being very last, upside down on a crumpet. The yolk does what butter should do in the holes of the crumpet.
Its very messy to eat though.
We have crumpets in the freezer all winter, and I buy them not make them.0

West Hampstead Thameslink has lifts to all platforms as does Borehamwood & Elstree since last week.
I am guessing Gen's story is probably from a while back, St Pancras Thameslink (with lifts) must have been open for a few years now.lostinrates wrote: »I don't honk that's you getting old.
