Well, that's what I'm hoping. DD is in there now, watching the TV and keeping an eye and ear out for signs of hamster movement.
She too has had a go with the broom handle but only managed to get it to run up and down the space between the strut and the backplate. At least that probably means it's still OK.lostinrates wrote: »Saw a really lovely house this afternoon. Might be a possibility for non RP. Currently let. A few issues, but can see why non RP is keen to see if they are resolvable.
Sounds promising. How far from your place is it?Is it comfy?
Just what I was wondering.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I thought that all pianos had wheels. Apparently, not!
I think it has little castors. But it weighs a ton and has settled into the carpet, so I don't think it's going to wheel anywhere in the near future. Wheeling it out of its ruts in the carpet would take several people pulling quite hard, and probably wouldn't allow for anyone to remain in a position from which the hamster was visible, so it seems about as fraught with hamster-danger as lifting it, really. What do they like eating? Can you coax it out with something?
Have put down some of its usual food in some of the tubes that belong to its cage leading out towards the rest of the room, and another cage tube with its water bottle. I assume it will have to come out far enough to get to the water eventually, even if it has sufficient food for a while out of the bits I put along the edge of the piano that might lead it forwards but not far enough to be grabbed. When it hides under the fridge, sometimes the broom handle sweep works, and sometimes the tube leading out into the open plan works.
At least DD has agreed that when this one comes to the end of its natural life we are not getting another one. The next animal to join our household is going to be a dog. I know dog ownership is more hassle than hamster ownership much of the time, but at least dogs don't go under the fridge or behind the piano and refuse to come out.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Would dropping a piano on the hamster not constitute it coming to the end of its natural life, then? It would be an extremely unnatural life if it survived that. Job done, and time for another pet.
Edit. I am not sure if I am cut out for this parenting lark. Seriously, the hamster is fine behind the piano, and it will come out when it's hungry. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
