Rsls are non profit but I take it that the directors are paid?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

This is the website of a Leagues club I was a member of until I moved out of the area:

    http://www.wentyleagues.com.au/

You'll notice that they don't mention gambling despite it being central to their revenues. Pokies are great: no staff costs to speak of and huge payouts to the owner.

This appears to be some sort of "gambling is good" submission by the bankstown rsl which I have been in several times. Given its scale and the number of machines it has it wouldn't look out of place up the old shabby end of the Vegas strip.

Page 9 indicates that 75% of its revenue comes from gambling. That it pays nearly $20 million a year in gaming taxes alone on relevant revenues of about $70 million probably goes some way to explaining why it is allowed to persist.

Correct. RSL stands for Retired Servicemen's League. It's the Aussie version of the British Legion.

Revenue from the pokies is a substantial portion of NSW taxation. There is a politician in Canberra from the Family First party called Nick Xenaphon who wants to ban pokies. He was in a position to do it in the last Parliament too as he held the balance of power but it was made very clear that it would never happen.

While it looked like it was a possibility, the Clubs spent a fortune on advertising how great pokies are.

Well done, PN. Sounds like you're getting used to shopping!

Can't wait for the pics of the cushions in situ :)

I've done very, very little today. I'm not dressed. I really need to get that office done once and for all and take photos by tomorrow. It is nearly there. I bought 8 really cheap but nice black storage boxes from Ikea for about £12. Best purchase for ages. There should nearly be a place for everything now, although I could do with some plastic wallets, not sure. Let's see. Yawn.

Just checked the powder drawer - now, I never check that..... but, water's been in the machine 5-10 minutes, clothes are going round ... all's fine .... but the powder drawer's still full of utterly dry powder.

Question is .... should it still be..... I thought that the powder'd have been added from the start.... but maybe there's a "get it all wet" stage before powder's added... although that doesn't make sense as it'd have to drain the water first - and I've only noticed it draining in the past after an hour or so.

2:33: It's drained, a quiet drain and a slow spin.... then slightly faster one.
2:36: Another draining - and a slowly increasing spin speed.....
2:38: Now it's stopped and is doing nothing.... for what seems an eternity.
    2:39: Ah, it's filling again.
2:40: Oh dear.... now it's going round, with water .... but the powder's still untouched in the powder drawer.
2:48: It's draining and fast spinning again.

Let's face it .... this doesn't sound right does it.

2:50: I just had to emergency stop it - it started spinning fast - and rattling back/forth and banging like a good 'un.... it's now on pause. Not sure what to do really ..... take my life in my hands, unpause it and let it continue ..... or book a washing machine service and pay through the nose for a pro to tell me it's fine and there's nothing wrong with it.

I went and was about to unpause it - but got too scared to .... what'd NPs do?

    Pn, leave in alone.

See how it washes the first time. It might be going for the powder each time you go for the drawer.

Well, it's on pause now. It wasn't going for the powder when I checked the drawer, as I was checking it when the drum was full of water and it was turning the washing/water over.... not while it was filling.

I think you should unpause it. Otherwise the clothes are going to be sat there wet for ages.

What cycle did you select and which compartment did you put the powder in? I always get confused by the markings on the compartments.

I did - because I figured me trying to get them out of the machine was probably harder than me giving it another go.

Cycle's just a 3 .... and it's on eco..... and powder's in the left hand hole of two. The smaller one ... ah .... maybe I've put it in the wrong one then .... maybe, in the past, I've always put it in the other slot. Can't remember but it does sound like I put the powder in the wrong bit doesn't it (based on slot size being smaller)

Here we go again - it's draining again.

My "ideal house" always had a separate/outside/brick built shed for the washing machine to go into ...... for this reason: fear of the darned thing.
