A vote for First Direct from me. Look after their customers IME.

I have a Halifax c/a, which I've had for agEd, and gives me exactly what I need (+£5 a month).

Plus a Santander 123 c/a, which is used as a savings account but with any cashback-earning direct debit also coming out of that account.

Cashback sites often have offers for new accounts/ switches too.

Me too. I prefer the online interface of the Halifax, but the cashback is nice on the 123 account, and of course I'm now getting interest on it. I get cashback on a 123 CC too.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

We only bank with LLoyds so cannot compare it..but we are happy with it and I really rate their on line banking and money manager.

We have two accounts, one of which we pay for £17 per month and you get travel insurance, phone insurance and break down cover.

OH uses the travel and break down..the health conditions supplement for me means it is cheaper for me to buy direct.

I have a maiden name acc with first direct. They have 'never done me wrong'. In fact, gone out of there way to help me often. I have picked up a replacement personal account card and cash from a commercial HSBC in Milan ( where they had no personal banking access) and got cash with no card at agricultural shows when forgotten my purse. I like first direct and even if I could deal with changing details it would take a lot to convince me to move bank accounts. More than £5 a month gain. Though weirdly, if they charged me £5 maybe I would move in a country used to 'free' banking:rotfl:

Lloyds muck up repeatedly. Also, when their people move the st James place bit they take their customer list and details so you get pestered and pestered and pestered. For years afterwards. Fir still has a lloyds acc but they were really upset when he down graded his acc. Fir has a halifax acc for the fiver a month.

I also have that credit card (amongst others). And I too prefer the Halifax interface.

Plus you get £100 for switching to them - we got this despite having already opened a mortgage with them and therefore already having a first direct current account (and both switching from hsbc).

I'd rather have access to a uk call centre rather than a mass Indian call centre like you get with most of the high street banks, if only because I don't have to waste time listening to "Dave" stuttering incomprehensible through the latest observations about the weather in England from his laminated card before I can ask him to unblock my card which has been frozen because I used it once more than I did last week.

I was with Barclays and they were just so staggeringly incompetent that we moved to Lloyds - have never had any problems with them and their branch staff are great.
As a self-employed person who doesn't earn a lot, and it doesn't come in evenly each month, I could never meet the "pay £xxx in every month" criteria for these online accounts.

There is none for my first direct account. I think I might have to have to have two or more products now a days to keep it free, so an isA or a savings acc with no fixed paying in bit or something.

Sending positive vibes to the jellies.

Current account wise I started using Lloyds when I graduated as they had the vantage accounts which paid more interest than savings accounts. I still use that as my main account as they've been pretty good to me, and when you don't have any money banks don't really offer you anything to switch to them (understandably!!).

Planning on reassessing things when I get a job.
