I was also thinking that when I was cleaning for my house guest. That and why did I but a house that needs doing up. Then, guest and I were having a cuppa and a get-to-know-you chat and we ended talking about the fireplace in the living room among other things. I think it is the original one. It reminded me why I do love my house. I've told him how to turn the heating on this evening.
Vibes being sent to lemonjelly + papa jelly from over here.0 -

Thanks for that, looks interesting....although he has a thing about android devices :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Been raining hard since 11 this morning and still falling heavily now....
So far today I have glossed the hand rail on the stairs, toilet door architrave, some skirting upstairs and painted the upstairs hallway ceiling....my shoulders now hurt and my back is as stiff as a board but it looks so much better. We made it! Tomatoes keep awhile, I've had them 10 days. Bread keeps awhile, I bought it 2 days ago ... and am about half way through it
The bread's a 47p loaf, so will be OK, then suddenly go green.0 -

*sniggers* ... the trouble with small is they're still badly laid out, so they don't optimise the space available. At least with bigger you can designate one room "and all the other stuff" and close the door.0 -
Well, trawling through ancestry, I found the usual bunch of thieving nomads in the tree....
Larceny - he got 6 months.
Stealing strawberries from a market gardener's strawberry patch aged 10.
Stealing a box of figs from the doorway of a shop - this bright spark ended up in reform school in Suffolk and is in two censuses as his parents listed him too.
Right bunch of ferals they all seem to be.0 -
Apropos of nothing, which is the best current account anyone here uses? My Santander account used to have free travel insurance, and cheap overdraft fees (when it used to be A&L). Has anyone opened a Halifax account and what are they like? I've got a dormant Flexaccount I may want to revive (has free travel insurance), or is the Metro bank or Coop any use? Occasionally overdraw and don' t expect much interest.
We only bank with LLoyds so cannot compare it..but we are happy with it and I really rate their on line banking and money manager.
We have two accounts, one of which we pay for £17 per month and you get travel insurance, phone insurance and break down cover.
OH uses the travel and break down..the health conditions supplement for me means it is cheaper for me to buy direct.0 -
SW was extremely cold last 2 nights (as low as 6.5) but going forward nights will be about 14 and days 18 so much more normal temps for the region - still need a sweater though, and definitely a rain coat.
Given the weather having no car is even worse as no chance to go and mooch around the shops or anything, DS also pretty unwell with cold and temperature and wheezing, the cold and damp weather doesn't help. Tomorrow need to try and get it fixed asap, need confirmed diagnosis first to order parts which will hopefully come on Wednesday, if we are lucky it will be fixed in time for our journey home on Friday. I am spending a lot of time telling myself that it would have broken anyway and that we have not spent as much as a cheap week in he Med on sitting in the cold and wet in Devon.
Poor DS.
Looking on the bright side the children have some grandparent time and you do have a sunshine holiday coming up in December.
Thanks for the weather update. I will spend a lot of the next few days by myself as OH has commitments. I will have to ensure I do not spend it all eating hot pasties and cream teas.0 -

A vote for First Direct from me. Look after their customers IME.0 -
I agree that left over mash is an odd concept, but I'm puzzled how you would reheat it in a saucepan without it burning.
The two most difficult things for any dishwasher to cope with seem to be mashed potato and scrambled egg.
I put it in a dry fry pan and fry it gently. You get a nice crust, Shepherds Pie style.
That or use it in something: the aforementioned pie, fish cakes, gnocchi are things that spring to mind (not that I've ever gotten round to making gnocchi).0
