Rails don't look as pretty as poles, though, so they're no longer much in use, and in years gone by they would have been hidden by a pelmet.

It's mostly curtain rails here. With wooden pelmets - something I'd never even imagined to exist before.

If you've got pelmets, then they're probably the best. You can paint them easily enough, they don't gather dust and there's no complex double curtain rail to get to grips with.

Oh dear. That's the one that people got trapped in the snow on a couple of years back, with a major rescue event - and questions being asked about how come there was no way off the hill for those stuck....

I'd have turned right and headed down the A30.... although I've no idea where you're going. But, if it's Cornwall, A30 every time for me. You know where you are with a road.... tolls and bridges and tunnels (the other way) can be a problem.

    I've been Money Tipped!
For any long journey when I was a kid I was always picked up out of bed at 4am, chucked in the car, strapped in and would wake up a bit dazed and covered I dribble 10 miles from the destination. Seemed to work well for all involved!

I had a very small 'case' in which I had to put some stuff and if there was room I could put other stuff. This had to be packed evening before accept for :o my comfort blanket.

Wooden pelmets are fAB, they can be used really well, covered they can look super posh alert.

Hope you got sorted out now. Used to have to drive a minibus up that hill. It's so steep it would really struggle and I had to go right down all the gears and you still weren't sure you'd make it. :o
