Fact is - if you'd chosen their toys and chucked them in the car first thing this morning, the moaning/crying/whinging would have been over before 11am... and forgotten forever once they saw the sea and had an ice cream in their hand.... which would have been by about now at a guess.

Time to seize back control michaels. It was always going to be a bit of a row whenever you got away if that is the packing methodology so at least you have given your self breathing space to actually have the disagreement.

Come on, there is obviously a passive-aggressive subtext going on here....
    I think....

The A road near us is closed, OH had to find an alternative route to work, I could not get to my clinical appointment at all.

    Easy for us.

A collision..claiming the life of a local teenager. From the description of the car I am fearing the worst for a nice young lad and his family.

I saw the BBC map of fatalities yesterday..the A Road and some country roads near here are just lethal for young drivers.

How horrible, I know that bit of road well. When I was young parents made sure their kids had safe but severely underpowered and untrendy cars to drive to hopefully reduce both the speed and show-off factors.
    I think....

Even in a slow car you can't stop them making cr4p decisions. There's a TV programme where two new drivers have their parents' car with a camera in it for a few days - and they go out to 2-3 destinations with their mates.

The video's then watched by a "driving professional" and the parents, to judge whether the kids can have their own car. Some of them are nearly killed in the videos with their lack of awareness.

Sounds debilitating and demoralising...this may be one of those days when it is best to decide to do whatever is the best thing to conserve what energy you have and minimise discomfort. Not chores, not anything stretching but gentle, calming, relaxing, pleasant. Any unpleasant interruptions from people..tell them , today is not a day when you can help.

I second that. Take it as easy as you can.

Now, LOL! I usually do 15k, but with one vehicle missing since late April, I/we have done 11k since March. It makes a difference!

I'm down to about 50,000 a year. When I drove full-time, it was around 125,000 a year. Happy days.

My first vehicle wat Renault Master chassis cab, in other words no body on the thing - ran around like that for a few months. I was the frist of my friends to get a license and so three of us used to rock up in it, in all of our 80s finery ( big hair, big earrings, big shoulder pads) at nightclubs. Frequently got told by bouncers to go and park at the far end of the car park - no sense of humour:rotfl:

@ viva - I wasted far too much time on PPRuNe this morning.

Everyone that is off on their holidays, have a good time.

    We still do!

DS2 continually moans that 1 litre is underpowered and therefore not cool and the fact it has only 2 rear seat belts not 3 is a pain for him.

I didn't take stalker notes of holiday dates of NPs who are starting today .... but this is close to where Spirit will be, so could go on the "what to do" list
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-28884037
When I say "close" it's an hour's drive and 35 miles... and parking is limited/bit of a problem as it can involve a bit of a walk, but they probably put on a minibus.

As for those that smugly got an early start from Herts .... fire farqs up plans of an easy drive http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-28893108

Makes flying to a war zone sound safe.:(

If it's signed off then it becomes part of the usual procedure: it's on the system, item sourced and provided, they know who fitted it. System asset register is updated. Next time you call in with a problem they know that stuff..... or, do it yourself, c0ck it up, with memory bought from ebay ... and it's all gone to c0ck.

In some organisations the equipment is provided by a 3rd party. Got a new starter? 3rd party company supplies it, built to a "standard build" written down in the contract agreed with the senior management 3 years ago - it goes on the asset register, company are charged monthly for it ... IT plug it in and away you go.

The company then know what equipment they have, what spec it is .... as part of the entire asset management system for the value of the company too.

They can also spot troubles "since we put that RAM in on floor 4", so an exceptions report can flag up "lots of issues on floor 4" and when they check, they'll see that over the last 3 months they've upgraded the RAM for everybody ... which then checks back to one batch, which turns out to be faulty.

This is of course spoken from the heart, and I feel for you. However, you are making several assumptions:

    1. Users are idiots and won't get the right RAM stick. That's not necessarily true ALL of the time.

    2. A manager signing something off will put it through the system correctly, rather than just signing a purchase order for some RAM.

    3. Users are not genuinely suffering. Michaels is saying that he spends an hour of every day waiting for an under-spec'd laptop. I simply couldn't put up with that. It would get on my nerves, and I'd leave. My wife's laptop, as supplied, is completely useless. She rarely uses it or the dedicated ADSL supplied by her employer. She simply could not get her work done if she relied on it.

So, IT efforts to stop mayhem in the system are also creating mayhem elsewhere - people leaving or being unable to do their work.

With [1] some will, some won't, but a support dept won't know which will be the case. Rules have to be made for everybody, or there's no point in systems.
With [2] Yes, managers aren't competent just because they're managers.
With [3], the simple answer is to pen a good business case for your kit to be changed for something else.
