We pay £200 - £120 gas and £80 electric and I've been beating down an electricity defecit with that. This house is woefully short of insulation compared to proper projects we've carries out. In winter 2010 we used £150 gas per month (so not carried across the year and paid for in summer) mid winter in a 2400 square foot house with proper insulation - and had the thermostat on to click in at 17 degrees overnight.

It all depresses me. Especially as the localcouncilare thoroughly unimpressed by the prospect of us having a passive house here. Cynical !!!!!!!s.

I pay rather less than that. But then I did shell out a lot of extra dosh on upgrading the insulation when I moved in.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    If we take the AUD2.5 = GBP1 which I use as a standard, that's a million bucks.

I think they took the description off the rental ad:

Estate agents are such a shower.

Land (including the house) is a bit over 1/4 acre which I think is 120 furlongs per chain per fluid ounce (I'm starting to forget how imperial measures work).

It's quite nice actually. Shame I haven't got a million bucks kicking about!

That's a most unusual layout for a house. It seems you have to pass through the kitchen to get anywhere.

What will Aussie waistlines be like?

I quite liked the flat. The garden of the house reminded me of a military cemetery.

And the furniture is quite something!

It's a weird road bishops ave. I used to quite like gawping there tbh. :)

A few of the houses look very good, at least from the outside.

And others you just have to wonder about.

See, I don't like either of those much GDb, but I do gawp at the money that's gone into them....yet how close to neighbours they are.

Toprak's windows are hideous. But I like the colour of its roof.

    Excellent decision.

Initially I read the "over" in your second paragraph as saying that you were planning to position the light unit on the wall above the woodburner, which struck me as likely to look rather odd. Took me a while to realise you were talking about priorities rather than position. :rotfl:

I'm pleased you said that. I thought it was just me taking it over-literally. I really only cottoned on when LIR said she did not know where to put the lamp.

    I agree that it's a no-contest decision.

I did the same. I figured it was because they could sit in front of the woodburner being cosy and warm and also get the benefit of the special light :o

I only cottoned on with Lydia's post. Which doesn't really count as cottoning on!

Sains website says the offer (I'm guessing I'm looking at the right one - cans, Max) is 'for delivery 13/08 to 20-something/8' perhaps the offer starts tomorrow? Possibly mysupermarket takes the prices directly from the website, website gets updated early as the soonest you can get a delivery is next day?

That's my guess anyway. But supermarket offers generally change on a Tues night.

    Ah, barstewards.... :)
Cheers... might be worth going again tomorrow then. I will come up with a round-Robin list of things I need/to get.

I've been offered a garden table, wooden, with chairs.... cost £400 (apparently), needs a rub down and splash of paint .... free - and if I say "no" it'll go in their garden with a "help yourself" sign ... I think I'll probably have it, as the table folds... it'll fit in the shed.

At the moment, the wind tunnel means it's not pleasant/feasible to sit in the garden.... but by next year I'll have it cracked :)

    Me too :)
I was imagining some hospital light (eh?) positioned and fixed above the top of the woodburner (and couldn't work out what/why etc).
