D'oh **facepalm smilie**. How did you manage to do that?

Well I resolved my problems with work by going out and getting quite drunk last night on their dollar. Not messily but enough.

Today we're going to the shopping mall across the road for brekkie and will decide what happens next.

I'm really quite weed off about this. "I've not been able to make a judgement about your performance this half year due to your illness. However, there is nothing you can do between now and the end of the year to make me want to renew your contact".

    Onanists.

I've got 6 months to find more work and there's a reasonable chance that I'll get a significant pay rise as a result.

Sorry to hear about the news from work, just as you're looking to the future. I really do hope that it is one of those blessings in disguise that you look back on a year or so later, and see it as a door opening - even if it might have felt like a kick in the teeth at the time.
    I need a ladder

I've got a combination ladder like this one (not that expensive though!) http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/3-way-combination-ladder---186m-190767

The extra versatility of being able to extend it a little, and being able to have steps up to the top, is really useful. Also if you need the legs to be on different levels, you can remain horizontal where it matters.

How do I tell if I have potato blight?

It starts with brown spots on the leaves, with a little halo effect around them - usually paler, yellowing. Eventually the yellowing effect spreads across the leaves.

If you do get it, then chop off the leaves at ground level, and don't harvest the spuds for 2 weeks - this allows the pathogens to die off in the soil, so they don't contaminate the spuds when you dig them up.

I can't believe they are so short-sighted, given your high performance over the time you've been with them, and the commitment you've shown to them by working when probably your body would have preferred to crawl into a corner and sleep.

    It will be their loss.

I too had to look up onanist, though my initial reaction was 'total w*nkbag', which on checking the dictionary was on the money.

They sound like someone so up themselves that they waft in on the smell of their own fart.

Yeah, it's often worth leaving the obscure words I use not looked up:rotfl:

TBH, they are cutting so hard that they are starting to create some terrible problems for themselves. They are getting to the stage where they don't have enough staff to do all the things that they have to do. I've seen it with other companies where they get to the point that they simply can't do what they need to do to grow.

They've got net cash outflows from their funds and they're making underwriting losses on their insurance because they're writing products that pay out too soon, too cheaply. They're trying to solve that problem by cutting costs rather than by not selling the wrong products any more.

Oh well, it's not my problem any more.

Tommorow we are doing DD1 birthday party (10), I am taking DD1, DD2 and 3 of DD1's friends to see Malifecent at the cinema and before that some sort of meal, no doubt they would like McDs but obviosuly I have to think of something less chavvy but still quick - suggestions (preferably with a voucher offer)?

Also any thoughts on what to get her as a present, there is a pop up tent and a badminton set but I suspect she also wants something she can play with inside, perhaps something crafty or a traditional games - I know other NPs have similar age DDs.

Predicted a win for Germany (or be it 2-2 plus penalties) but also predicted Brazil 2-1 currently I am 2/3rds of the way down our competition but hopefully if the other results go well it may improve a bit.
    I think....

If that's the direction of travel for the company, perhaps it's better to be out of there - albeit hard because it's not on your own terms and of your own choosing.

Given your manager's comments, do you expect a good reference from them? Or will you have sufficient external contacts for your performance to speak for itself to prospective employers?

Burger King. Infinitely less chavvy ;) :rotfl:

I'm rooting for Belgium now, given that England and Mexico (office sweepstake) are out. I suspect I might need a Plan D after the results of the Belgian match against Argentina tomorrow evening, but hey-ho

    Pizza Express?

Lots of vouchers usually from vouchercodes.co.uk and similar.
