PasturesNew wrote: »Years ago my parents bought a High Street furniture shop sofa .... nothing special. Some time shortly after they'd moved house they randomly decided to recover it, rather than buy a new one. God knows why as it wasn't a quality/sturdy item to start with.
They had it recovered in a velvet-style material - cost them £700!!! in 1996. I went mental..... could have bought a brand new one, better, without the cushions sagging, for £300-400 easily!
We have had our biggest sofa for 25 years. It was a 3 seater striped thing, now is a two seater dark red thing. Restyled, feather back and seat cushions and recovered about 15 years ago.
It has a Duresta frame and we are told it is of good quality, but we would like new sofas now ..three of them.
The remodelling and recovering was about £1200 back then.0 -

Dogs don't eat on it ever, er, dog dog is curled up on it now. I'll clear her off it and take a pic in day light tomorrow.. Its in a bit of a state. It was a dog sofa in dh's youth too. Their brief period of dog owner ship it lived in the huge hall of their house and the dog slept upon it.
Edit, just tried photos as I thought to dark for whole sofa, but the one of varnish state came out!
GDb, I don't really do blue.. Weird personal thing. I like the one linked below. I adore the one for 12. 50 and I bet its deliciously scratchy ( I like scratchy things...as a plus, dog dog does not) , but also doesn't say its suitable for upholstery
. That would be my favourite. Room is very pale silvery/green, with dark wood, black picture frames, white curtains in Summer and curtain fabric undecided for winter. Matching NOT important. If we went natural brownish painting seems sensible as other wise the wood is lost. Some detail has been scuffed of wood. NOT chewed by dogs. Think maybe by careless moving or something?

Like the fabric..would need throws in our doggy/outdoorsy household to save it from getting grubby quickly as people/dogs brush by.0 -
Had a Nice spontaneous outing today.:)
When Nikkster visited the same place she made herself very useful. I made a mess and my hostess had to launder my top..fortunately I had another with me. For NDG/LiRs benefit no Poo was involved.
Great house in a great location.. very close to beaches and a National Park.
Admired newly constructed flat pack shelves and drawers, and was shown and a collection of prototype and practice jewellry including sea glass. Lots of space and light for being creative.
Got home after driving through pouring rain and had dinner of caprese followed by Plaice (filleted by Mr S) new potatoes, peas and homegrown courgettes and homegrown runner beans.
Most of the way through a bottle of white and will have an M&S pudding (an unexpected treat from Miss S).
Had a lovely afternoon.0 -
So, DH was queuing for a bagel in brick lane this week and some Italians turn up teasing one of their group because he doesn't eat various things, including cheese, so fir turns round and tells him, in Italian ' what's wrong with you, here, here is Gorgonzola ( pulling some out of his bag) eat cheese and be happy, mean while another small group are translating this and one says ' I don't eat eat cheese either, don't say anything' and they are French, for is rummaging in his bag and pulls out some French cheese and turns to them and says ' and you, don't think French gets you out of this happy cheese eating.' Then he was at the front of the queue and ordered a herring bagel ( yuk).
I think he's going to get a very odd reputation as someone who challenges lactose intolerant or cheese hating people to eat cheese.0 -

He has also taken to buying homeless people food. Its something he has always done, but he's sort of stepped it up. They are eating better than us. I have suggested Paul cholocalte cake probably is both wastful of our resources and less useful to someone in need than a good healthy protein and veg option. Or some dog thing for people who have a dog.
The chocolate cake was a treat for him ( anorexia phase over I think) but then he saw someone who he decided needed it more. This has happened this week with doughnuts and some thing else, cannot remember what else. At least he's eating. At least he's kind.0 -

I cried laughing too. It's the funniest thing I've read since, oh, not that long ago. Prior to that it was naked fly swatting that made me cry laughing. Fir is exceptionally good value for money. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Despite cloud cover on much of the sky we just watched the ISS going over, apparently followed by another satellite. I'm too knackered to try find out what it might be though. Magic to see ISS though. :j0
