Thanks GDB. That's really helpful. I guess for starters we should identify whether we have Jewish people living here as they may want them. We do like a well trimmed Bush around these parts though, we have estate gardeners who are always on site cutting the lawns and bushes. It makes it an attractive place to live.

We like a well trimmed bush round these parts too.

It's normal to see the man of the house giving his wife's bush some attention of a weekend in the suburbs of Sydney.

Although half of them also use the services of a gardener, mid week.

It's a spectator sport in Oz then? Obviously things are different down under.

It has gone all "Benny Hill" on here this morning.

Last night OH played tennis and went to the pub afterwards. due to holidays some of his regular playing friends had substitutes.

One was a local 'pillar of the community'.However I think Mr Spirit and the others will be giving this guy a wide berth in future.
His conversation was of the ilk of a "lecherous old man" ...Mr S was appalled that this chap would not be distracted from making remarks about women and girls.which they tried to do with humour, e.g his .observations that there were some attractive young women in shops and business around the village square. The others laughingly pointed out that these ladies were probably not saying that about the men (all but OH are local businessmen). One of the young women he commented on is closely related to the other two chaps who played, eliciting a "steady on" to stop him digging a bigger hole.

The guy is in his early 60's, several divorces behind him and currently in a (relatively recent) relationship. I know him as an acquaintance, know he gets quite depressed when he is single, have introduced him to a single friend who he asked for an introduction to (it didn't go anywhere). By coincidence I have been invited to join a village group that he chairs...I feel totally put off.

I am sure he is harmless..but cringeworthy.

Spirit, as you know, I don't mind a bit of smut, but not directed at people if you see the difference. It takes it from smut to a bit grubby IMO.

One of my parents brought such a person to a social function where a good girlfriend of mine is, and the man made similar comments about her, and frankly it was a bit stomach churning. A compliment, charming. What he thinks later alone, his business. Discussion about her to others about her charms in such fashion.......devoid of charm.

I am also reminded of a time I was thanked for bringing my body to a party when I was about twenty. My body, and I, left. Much as I like being admired, even then I'd rather be admired a little more charmingly.

That's really cringeworthy. Perhaps their social skills have improved by now.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I dunno, the person thanking was thinking he was a big man because was a mature student in his thirties. Almost all the straight chaps on campus wanted to be him.

He's probably of the ilk of spirit's acquaintance now.

No offence meant and my comment was meant to be more double endendre than dirty as a response to the 'no michaels' quip.

FWIW, I can't stand people like your acquaintance. I don't mind a genuinely funny joke that is also sexist between men but they get boring very fast and there is a line that I hate seeing crossed. One of the things that put me off golf was the thought of standing in a club house listening to misogynists banging on about 'The Little Lady' and their imagined prowess with the 'Fairer Sex'. Sheesh.

I had a chat with my boss today about the jobs I applied for. She is being very supportive and asked me to send me the job specs so she can say the right thing if the hiring manager calls. It could be so that she can stitch me up but I doubt it strongly.

I went out for lunch with an accountant today who got made redundant but got an internal job in a related area to where I've applied. He reckons I'd enjoy it. He's a really nice guy as it goes. Big on meditation and, slightly strangely, Lego. This is where we went for lunch:

I had ham and eggs for ten bucks (call it a fiver in UK Quids). It was delicious and served with really yummy toast made from Italian(?) bread. The egg was slightly overcooked (only slightly) but the ham was delish.

Bangers and mash with onion gravy for dinner tonight. Nom (only the one but it should be good). We've got the Thermomix demo tomorrow. Can't say I'm looking forward to it especially but there are worse things to do I suppose.
