Viva, you want Sukkot. It begins 8 October, and people will want to collect the laurel in the preceding week.
Are you going to let your 'customers' loose on your laurel bushes? PYO-style. If so, you'll probably need to trim them up afterwards. I tend to cut pieces 30 to 50 cms long, and lots of different people cutting odd chunks out may not produce the nice neat finish you want.
You would think that with all their sukkot building skills, jews would be good at DIY, but they are not.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Don't lose heart.
Would it be worth going somewhere and trying a few things on.
It can be difficult when you are not so well..as you might think there is nothing that makes you feel great, but there may be something that makes you feel better.
When is the event?
About a month I think, which sounds a long time until I contemplate making so etching when a month becomes three weeks of thinking, two day s of buying, and two days of saying 'I cannot do this' while tacking and then going out in an almost finished thing with a safety pin in it.
I wore a dress I made myself the day before to a friends wedding and the darn thing started unstitching. I was very lame back then, DH went to a shop and got Flowers on pins and we held it together that way. I got several compliments. But I have feeling people were saying ' who is the batty disabled girl dressed like a Tahitian'0 -

I poked the fire with a stick a lot, saying "Ug" frequently.
Aren't fires hypnotic?
Yup. I definitely have an inner pyromaniac, I adore bonfires.
And fire worship seems entirely rational to me.We've had an exceptionally hot summer this year, and the blackberries are about 1 month early.
I think the early-ness of the spring was pretty important? Everything got a running start from early March or so?lostinrates wrote: »Well, knickers, bras anything underwear ish that I have hand washed can go on a towel rail near or above a rad. Its easier to hand wash that sort of stuff as you peel it off I think. Though I do have a hand wash setting on washing machine I use now more readily.
Handwashing is for people who are far better organised and more patient than I am. Everything, as far as I'm concerned, can either go in the machine, or needs dry cleaning....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Nah, I bet they were genuine compliments lir. I expect you carried it off perfectly.
Just back from the outdoor cinema. Screen was about 2 feet too low, too many people turned up with folding chairs. The main problem thought was that it was waaaaay too quiet. Quite a lot of people left. I have still no longer seen The Goonies, but I had a great time chatting, gossiping and generally having a giggle with a couple of colleagues. We had to be asked to leave as they wanted to bring a lorry in to remove the screen and we were still chatting!0 -
So, I've spent most of today trying to get my Russian passport renewed......
Apparently I now need a form from the Georgian embassy, and have an endless list of documents to get (basic disclosure, medical notes, document to say I won't claim medical treatment as non-resident etc)
Why does anything that comes with Russia have to be as difficult as possible?!
I like the marquee (think it was GDB that posted).
I'm off to bed, before I become not nice. Night to the NP💙💛 💔0 -
NP Thought:
What political jobs are more powerful than German Chancellor do we think?
That really depends on one's definition of "power" I suppose!
For example, in terms of sheer impact on number of people's lives, the leading political roles in China and India are hard to beat in the power stakes - a billion or so each.
In terms of the lengths to which one can go, whatshisname in North Korea can, apparently, do absolutely anything. So, maybe, him.
Or leaders of giant cults like the Mormons are pretty damn powerful in other ways....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Very difficult to wear yellow.
I noticed that Phase Eight have a good range of party wear. Not sure if that suits your look or budget.
I actually write like that dress (and I'm not generally a fan of gold), but the gathered bit funded in completer the wrong place. A few inches lower would perhaps have made all the difference.
I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks time (incidentally, my first gay wedding). I think I need to try on my possible dresses. I think some emergency shopping may be required. After that, I'm heading straight to a work thing. Again, I think I need to consider how many appropriate outfits I've got and schedule in some clothes buying expeditions0 -

Head and tail can be chopped off easily, although apparently keeping the head on makes filleting when cooked even easier. Though personally the head is what reminds me I am eating what was a living thing.
I like fish, a lot. (eating that is)
Couldn't agree more, SC. I don't like things staring at me when I'm eating them.Good. Respectful relationships in all aspects are an important and happy part of adult life which parents need to accept.
Can feel like a parental milestone though.
A friend once complained that she expected to be kept awake by her offspring when they were small...but the sound of nocturnal activities of her then 'enthusiastic' adult daughter were a source of stress. The solution was to move the daughters bed so that the bed head was against an external, rather than internal wall.
Another first world problem solved.
I think that's more of a third world extended-family-houses problem?
When OH came to stay at my parents' house, he wasn't allowed in my old room there. He had to share bunk beds with my brother.
That was true from when we'd just started going out until I was pregnant with Isaac - 6.5 years in total......
I love your loo silver - it's really lovely!lostinrates wrote: »Angela merkel , women's hour tells me, is being criticised for wearing an outfit she wore 18 years ago.
Surely it should be celebrated that she fits in it, is not stupid enough to throw things away, and recognises style cycles. I haven't seen the outfit, it might be awful, but.....why shouldn't she?
Or completely ignoring it. Such a non-story! She's a highly intelligent, interesting, powerful woman. I couldn't care less if she recycles her suits (if I have to have an opinion, I definitely go with yours, though, not criticising her).CKhalvashi wrote: »Why does anything that comes with Russia have to be as difficult as possible?!
Because they like it!
Best of luck, hope you get it sorted, soon.
When best mate and I were in Russia, we tried to register with the police office as required within X hours of arrival in Russia. Eventually we were told that we couldn't register in Moscow (where we'd always intended to visit first, and had received our "invitation" from for our visa) because our visas had been authorised in St. Petersburg. We couldn't get there in time to register without coughing up several hundred quid we didn't have.
Best mate asked, reasonably and politely, what we could do next. The KGB charm school graduate said, "This is not my problem. This is your problem" and closed her service window. We usually get some apples and blackberries together. We won't this year.
Blackberries have 'gone over' by 1st September. Apparently the Devil pi55es on them at the end of August.
The devil spits on them at Michaelmas - not August! Most years, they aren't ripe by the end of August I reckon? Many years ago whilst a very new mum, I was attending a wedding, OH was best man. The occassion warranted a trip to London to buy an outfit .
You should do an Angela Merkel and dig it out for a few more outings!lostinrates wrote: »https://img1.etsystatic.com/029/0/5771280/il_340x270.619489009_q1r5.jpg
I think this dress looks like its got caught in the wearer's knickers.
I'm not enjoying browsing for dresses.
Horrible colour, as well as the "stuck in knickers" thing.
What kind of dress do you think, LIR? Long? Knee? Short? Sleeveless, long sleeves, etc?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
WP says: "The sukkah is intended as a reminiscence of the type of fragile dwellings in which the Israelites dwelt during their 40 years of travel in the desert after the Exodus from slavery in Egypt. Throughout the holiday, meals are eaten inside the sukkah and some people sleep there as well. "
I can imagine you need to be an awful lot more devout to sleep in it in, say, Edinburgh as opposed to Ein Gedi.Very difficult to wear yellow.

Silver has a very good point, LIR, Phase 8 does some lovely stuff.
Even if someone is wearing the same, I really don't think it matters. You have such lovely, distinctive hair and do such great make-up that it would probably look different, even if someone else had the same....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
