Angela merkel , women's hour tells me, is being criticised for wearing an outfit she wore 18 years ago.
Surely it should be celebrated that she fits in it, is not stupid enough to throw things away, and recognises style cycles. I haven't seen the outfit, it might be awful, but.....why shouldn't she?0 -

Totally agree. I found a Chester Barrie suit I bought about 30 years ago at the back of my wardrobe, and I more or less fit in it! The most expensive suit I ever owned. But it could do with a good clean.
Mulberries are fabulous. http://www.blakeneymanor.co.uk/ This is the un-posh hotel in Blakeney. You can stop for a drink and feast on mulberries in their garden as nobody ever picks them. They also have figs that just drop to the ground. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

What on earth is wrong with people, and the hotel, that they aren't using these things?0 -

In summer I go up to the park near work and snooze under the fig tree. (I don't think the figs are edible as they're tiny).
I don't get this thing for criticising women for wearing the same thing twice. The crazy thing is it's normally junior journos writing those pieces who:
1. Can barely afford to pay rent let alone wear clothes once
2. Can only dream of ever achieving a job that is anything like Chancellor of Germany, one of the top 10 political roles in the world.
NP Thought:
What political jobs are more powerful than German Chancellor do we think?0 -

Even if they can't be 4rsed, or aren't in a position to "do something with them", they could use it for some free promotion by holding an annual/local activity day, fete, garden party, whatever, with "PYO Free..." as the enticer.
And if they can be a bit more 4rsed, then it'd be The Mulberry Festival ... and they'd have competitions for jam making, country crafts and stuff.... serving stuff they did bother to make with their own mulberries.... like a slice of pie served with a pot of tea (or whatever you serve with a mulberry pie).0 -
Bit early for blackberries I'd have thought. Still it gets a nom from me anyway.
We don't really get blackberries here but do get mulberries which are almost as good.
I applied for 3 internal vacancies today, 2 of them are grade promotions and all three are probably actually promotions.
What selection criteria will they use? What if anything do you need to do to explain your current contract ending?
Your present manager 'worries' me, I would liek to think you market yourself and that there are others who may be a 'campaign manager' for you.
Given your current bosses inability to appraise you properly (based on you having been ill ) do you need to anticipate that they may not be especially good at advocating for you . Is there a well regarded alternative who could support or champion you?
Can you speak to the appointing managers beforehand, and as well as explring the role/team etc take a short opportunity to refer to what you have delivered, talk through head on any 'hiatus, that it was life threatenng health related,' thankfully ' its relatively short duration, the impact you saw on yourself and colleagues/business. Your heightened emotional intelligence.0 -
Ok, more powerful politicians than the German Chancellor in no particular order:
1. POTUS
2. US Secretary of State
3. Chairman of the Fed
4. Russian President
5. Chinese premier
[STRIKE]6. Lord Protector, Beloved Leader, Field Marshall Sir Generali of Generali[/STRIKE]
7. British PM (British PM has much more centralised power in his/her hands and is highly unlikely to be running a coalition Government)
8. French President perhaps (???? 7 year reign, lots of central powers, has to put up with French unions and politicians)0 -

.
We usually get some apples and blackberries together. We won't this year.
Blackberries have 'gone over' by 1st September. Apparently the Devil pi55es on them at the end of August.
The ones in freezer are enormous. If I had cultivated them I would be bragging about them.
Talking of bragging...I have many baby cucumbers. It is like cucumber kindergarten in my raised bed.:)0 -

This is a private sector job so the criteria are whatever the hiring manager sees fit within the laws around discrimination of course.Your present manager 'worries' me, I would like to think you market yourself and that there are others who may be a 'campaign manager' for you.
I think that my current manager is extremely embarrassed about the whole thing and really doesn't like having been put into the position of not re-hiring me. I am a really good reader of people and I can see (I think) that she is doing all sorts of completely uncharacteristic things for the good of me rather than the company (rather not go into details but take it from me, there are 2 big things).
She is also encouraging me to apply for jobs and to stay in the company.Given your current bosses inability to appraise you properly (based on you having been ill ) do you need to anticipate that they may not be especially good at advocating for you . I have already spoken to the woman who runs the department. She's based in Melbourne so I've never met her but I have done a ton of work with her department. I did a favour for one of her direct reports today which has really helped him out. It also underscores one of the big strengths I have which nobody else in her department has.
My 'personal brand' at work is very strong because, unlike almost everyone else in my sort of role, I am unfailingly polite and courteous to those who I rely on to provide services for me.
Strangely, I don't feel that having been effectively sacked has had any sort of impact on my ability to get a job internally, stupid as that sounds.0
