Good news all round - tiredness would probably go a lot quicker if you didn't have to work through it!0 -
I remember as a small kid, there were several members of the family around who either had lived through W.W. 1 as a civilian, and some of them even saw combat.
They told their stories, but as a little child I couldn't really appreciate it, there was always some urgent playing to do or an ice cream to acquire.
I would absolutely love to sit with these people again now that I'm older (and supposedly grown up) and just listen. We owe them so much.0 -
If my grandfather was alive, he would have been 100 this year. My grandparents would all have been too young to recall the war, or not yet born. Haven't a clue about great grandparents, I never met any and don't recall anyone talking about them, so I'm guessing they died way before I was born. Not even sure that many of them would have been in Britain at that stage, probably all Eastern European.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. The only person I knew for sure that had served in WW1 was my paternal grandmothers neighbour, who had breathing difficulties all his life after being in the thick of a mustard gas attack.0 -

My maternal grandfather was born in 1897, maternal grandmother in 1903.
They tried to flee to France with their parents, but somehow that didn't work out, so they settled somewhere in the North East of Belgium, away from the front.0 -

Oh dear! Hope it is a false alarm.
I do wonder what good can an escort plane do in mid air? Ground forces can obviously be on stand by to greet the plane, but in mid air, what can they do, apart from observe?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Ridiculous isn't it. The chap who received the money got 8.5 years inside - surely the briber is worse than the bribee.
That said, the case would have gone on for years and years with ecclestone saying to ill and old to stand trial, lawyers paid millions to just drag things out as long as possible etc etc so you can see why the prosecutor gave up.0
