Generali, has generalissima seen Brave?
It's not the greatest Disney film ever, but it sounds like she'd identify with Merida. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I was thinking that earlier - I've not seen the film, but she reminds me of the pictures I've seen(I'm guessing Merida is the main character?)

I'd already picked some hefti courgettes for this evening when I saw this. ( of course we're having both now)
We have yellow beens ready now, so I better get out and pick and process them before the same happens to them.
I very nearly bought some yellow beans yesterday - I popped out in the car yesterday morning to collect my paint (:)) so did a loop of the shops that are a bit to far to walk to. Which includes B+Q. I somehow managed to leave empty handed but I was very tempted to buy some reduced bell pepper plants (I planted chilli and pepper seeds, then forgot which were which so I'm not sure what of those have survived and are growing, except for the chilli plants which I bought from the reduction shelf a while back...). They also had some cheap yellow bean plants - complete with beans. The plants were obviously doing ok as they must have flowered, but they were quite small plants (maybe 15-20 cm high) so I didn't think they'd be worth buying.
Should I be going back tomorrow?!
I have a confession. As well as planting my veg too close together (lesson learnt for next year) - I've also been mis-treating my tomato plants. They are the one failure so far. I have blossom-end rot. I think it's because I haven't been removing foliage. This afternoon I removed the affected fruits, and some of the foliage. Whilst I was in that bit of the garden with the secateurs I thought I'd tidy up the rest of my 'allotment'.
I think the plants I'm most impressed with are the butternut squash. They were the smallest plants, and I got them for 15p each because they looked so sad. All 3 are HUGE.
I also confirmed that what I thought was a plum tree is indeed a plum treeLuckily I avoided the half of plum with the wiggly thing in it
On tonight's menu Chez Nikkster:
Griddled lamb with aubergine, courgette and The Runner Bean on a bed of salad with herb-infused olive oil.
The bits I didn't grow: lamb, olive oil, tomato (:(), garlic, red onion
The bits I got from the garden: aubergine, courgette, The Runner Bean, little gem lettuce, orange thyme and golden oregano.
Aperitif of Blackberry and Elderflower Pimms (if you're tempted, don't bother - it's not very nice) with pink lemonade currently being served :beer:0 -

(Actually we are going to Zizzi as we have a new Italian student coming and we are not sure what she eats [not vegiterean but prefers no meat but does meat include chicken if you are Italian?] which is a shame as yellow sticker for next to nothing in Sains today we got BBQ chicken and some TTD rolls which have had to go in the freezer instead of making a great BBQ for which the weather has improved enough)I think....0 -

Nikkster, I don't remove foliage from toms either, usually. Some times I do just cause I like the smell. I am just not a strict enough gardener to train toms and fuss with them. If I manage to get the laterals off I'm pleased.
We didn't grow any this year,
Ironically. This would have been a good year for them here!0 -

Put me down for some griddled lamb .... and I'll bring some spuds to make chips.
I might have spuds (well I definitely have an old but still ok potato in the cupboard).
The potatoes in the garden (King Edwards): I'm unsure if I should be doing anything with them. As previously mentioned, they have extensive foliage. This is now mainly lying down (but still alive). As far as I'm aware I should be waiting for the foliage to die back before I harvest. So I'm guessing that is when it all goes yellow, not just when it's horizontal!
I am not living The Good Life. This is all advanced making-it-up-as-you-go-along. I'm enjoying it hugely though!0 -

I'd not removed anything - growing tips, lateral shoots - nothing.
I'm hoping getting rid of some of the greenery will make them happier. Considering I'd never grown anything before (just left a trail of dead houseplants behind me...), I'm amazed by how well everything else seems to be doing.
I went round to a friend's house last night. She has a paved yard at the back of her house. I was showing her pics of my 'allotment' and I think she's going to come round for a look as she'd assumed she wouldn't be able to grow things in pots0 -
Oh, might be just getting out most of your laterals would have made a difference. Like dead heading, nice job to do am or pm, glass of wine or cup of coffee ( or drink of choice ) in hand. Pleasure not chore.
Not like, bleuuuuur, Weeding..
