    Westy pic please.

    Here's the reckless spend

Not the best angle, but worryingly, the tidiest background!

    I like that a lot.

What soil and aspect does it need? Is it going in the ground?

I thought this could pass for "beachy" http://www.curtainsandblinds4homes.co.uk/userfiles/lg_images/Curtains_Athens_Aqua.jpg

I'd not "choose" it, but it would pass for beachy if the price were cheap....

So I typed in the sizes I'd want..... and the price came up at £360.

PFFFTTTTT. As if. I need curtains, I'm not being interviewed for Hello Magazine's Room of the Year!

It's very lovely. Wonder where the end of rolls for it would end up. An alternative would be plain curtains with pelmets and footers or tie backs of that.

Very nice stuff, relaxing, warm but not hot. Good all year round.

Not in ground, too short :p. Will build a raised bed for it to size , sun, sun, sun, preferably.

They are quite tough. Summers are hot hot hot in Tuscany, but winters bitter with more snow.

I think that's probably the best care home plan .... you probably get a better room, food, activities in prison :)
    And any 'inheritance' is protected.

I should start recommending that as a route for people trying to avoid paying their parents' care home fees :)

Today I went down to the dock to buy fish.

As i had not been there for a good number of years i was expecting change..but it had totally had a makeover. I drove through a small estate of townhouses built on what had been pretty rundown fishing dock..thinking it had all gone. Then got to a large fish market shed..alongside the dock with small fishing boats tied up and a small ferry coming in. It was all helluva lot more posh than I remembered..but sadly I missed the 'honesty' of it. On a bright note the fish was quite bit cheaper (but you have travel time/costs)

Bought cod and a huge smoked haddock (for fish pie for tehf reezer), two dover sole for dinner tomorrow and over a kilo of mussels for us to have tonight. All the talk of chips on teh thread has made me want moules frites..but I am not cooking chips. They will be with bread, cooked in white wine, garlic, parsley, cream.

I rang OH and he accepted my invitation to lunch so he came across on a passenger ferry and we ate overlooking the water. It was all quite holidayish and romantic:o.

I don't put cream in my mussels. What I do do, is use a sweeter white wine than I personally care to drink. I find it works well for some reason. Bizarrely though, I also add lemon juice , so ......maybe that's why it all balances. :D. We also are bread over frites.

Any of the lovely winey fishy sauces left over ( and I make a lot) makes a really nice base for a leek soup, preferably, or if not, other veg. This is a really autumnal meal for us! The one follows the other.

I've never had mussels.... or oysters ... and never intend to start!!
    They sound slimey/nasty :)

I remember one year on holiday dad bumped into a work colleague on the beach and they went off to collect mussels from the rocks on the shoreline... then they cooked/ate them. I disappeared off, I had no wish to see mussels, or see people eating them.... ewwww. I think his work colleague was a Spaniard - and dad had been from an island.... so these things were probably normal for both of them.. not for me!

Raw oysters are kinda slimey, but still delicious, mussels are not slimey. They are tender and soft and not very pretty but not slimy. They are served with 'sauce' usually, which is also not usually slimy :)

That sounds so lovely Spirit :)

My fish-free scampi and mushy peas were definitely neither holidayish nor romantic. The 'scampi' wasn't too bad, but I'd choose the non-fish-free variety over it any day.

After much deliberation (and I mean much), I decided to go for the chips. This was after I'd decided I wasn't going to so I'd changed out of what I'd worn to work and into my joggers.

So yes, dear reader, I nipped over the road to the chippie in my joggers. I am truly sophisticated.
