Still not seen your badge, LiR, even after Davesnave told me where to look. I took the liberty of looking at your user details in case it was on there, but can't see it there either. Maybe it's a browser problem - I'm using Chrome. But I'll bow and scrape all you like even without seeing your badge.
I use chrome and can see the badge. It is under the post count which is below the avatar - can you see the avatar?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It is very hard to set up a trust that really keeps the money out of the kids' hands. A discretionary trust would do it, but that is not very tax effective.
The whole thing is a PITA to administer. At Lydia's age, it's probably an awful lot less trouble to set up a life assurance policy to pay any IHT. Bear in mind that as LNE was only NE, Lydia's estate has the use of his nil rate band as well as her own. So, that's £650k before any IHT is payable. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Had one before, where it snowed once every 3 years, just for one day - and wasn't ever cold. It's not cold here... south coast. It'll be fine here.ukmaggie45 wrote: »So suggest if you keep it in a pot and the temp is going seriously sub zero you wrap the pot in bubble wrap to try and keep the soil its in a little bit warmer than the surrounding air. Nice plants when they get going - kind of palm tree look, fit nice with your seaside theme. :-)0 -

No biscuits. Outrageous! Although I don't really think eating biscuits in a job interview is a great idea. More importantly there was no water either which didn't help given how hot it was outside.
I just sat in the chair closest to where I took the photo from, although I was left on my own in the room for 5 mins or so and in light of previous advice here to act like a banker was tempted to go right up the other end of the room and sit at the head of the table.0 -

It's an impressive room. I'd sit at the rounded end of the table, as you want to sit at right angles to the guy interviewing you. I can't imagine that sitting at opposite sides of the table would be a good way of interviewing. What did you and he do?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Just 3% ....
IHT threshold is £325k. My house is worth more than that.We have one of those policies. It ends when DS2 is 21, which is not that far off. We had another that ended when DS1 was 21, a policy that you hope never to claim out on, but nevertheless in hind sight feels like a waste of money.
It was NOT a waste of money. If you had needed it, you would have really needed it. Be grateful you didn't.It is very hard to set up a trust that really keeps the money out of the kids' hands. A discretionary trust would do it, but that is not very tax effective.

Ooooh. Thank you. I had forgotten about his nil rate band. That puts me below the threshold even with the house. No need to think about that again for a few years then.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Would the NE band apply to any money received now though? Logically I would think not and isn't that the issue? Or do they just get added together whatever happens?0
