No we have NI and the Falklands as 'excellent' examples of annexation over the longer term.0 -

Things have moved on a bit since Culloden, haven't they.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Our acquisition of both those territories was long before we became "civilised" as PN describes it. Our subsequent defence of them was in accordance with the vote of the peoples of those places. Do you think we wouldn't defend Scotland if the No vote won, and then a minority of Scots tried to bring about Scottish independence by force? Or if some other power invaded Scotland? Do you think we wouldn't hand over the Falklands if the islanders voted for it?
I'm not by any means saying that everything that the British have done in the Falklands or in NI has been fine. It's more complicated than that. But they haven't, within living memory, been "uncivilised" according to PN's criterion that being civilised means letting other bits of land go if they vote to do so.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

There is a limit, though. What happens if all the people in our street get together and vote for independence? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
