Not sure that I agree with this. Look at what Jonas Salk did with the polio vaccine.

Feeling a bit NDG here, should I have said "is it possible to train someone to not snore?", as opposed to my original post?

Wasn't Salk doing charity funded work at a state funded institution? March of the Dimes and all that. Is the suggestion that people should give away their homes to someone in need?

I don't see any reason for Michaels to sell his house for less than someone else will pay for it.

Pasteur could have made a fortune from Pasteurisation but IIRC he didn't for religious/moral reasons. He recognised a moral imperative that certain things have to restrain their profit motive for the public good. Not putting profit before people.

Some things are too important for that.

Michael's house price clearly doesn't fit into that category. I do agree with Hamish though that housebuilding in the UK is about as rudimentary and primitive as banking/ train travel/public transport is in the US.:(

Question. How long does/should it take for a solicitor to register stuff with land registry etc?
Completion was over 2 months ago now. Haven't had the deeds yet, & another deed the solicitor was due to draw up. Plus, had requested details for drawing up a will.
Is over 2 months usual for a solicitor to tie up all the stuff?

My sister works in property law, something stamp duty related, deals with the Land Registry a lot. I'll ask her tomorrow if I remember.

My solicitor's written to me saying they can keep the deeds (for free), or they'll send them to me if I wish ..... and a letter saying I need to think about a will and offering a discount to do it with them. And some long/dull "how was the service" questionnaire I'll just end up binning.

The deeds are all electronic now, you just get a copy (like the copy you were sent when buying, but with your name on it :)). It took about 3 months for mine to arrive. I think it goes: solicitor notifies land registry, land registry write to previous owner checking that they are aware someone is changing the name on the deeds, if all is ok, land registry change the deeds. Can't remember either they (or sol) send a copy - can't rememberseeing a set with mymortgage provide mentioned so I'm thinking not. A couple of weeks later, sold price appears on rightmove/ zoopla etc :)

No need for solicitor to hold deeds. Land registry take care of that.

Nah, I'd rather not. I shouldn't have to either.

Regardless of whether I've ever had my mail re-directed (once, I think) - this is what really should be done. Definitely not my fault that it wasn't. Likewise I'd guess you can provide a forwarding address when you close an account? Or they will also try and contact you by phone/ email if they have those details. The house was empty for possibly 4 months. I have no idea what happened in that time.

Just before I posted, I emailed a couple of official addresses (just in case, I don't have any ref numbers).

    I'll call the Uni tomorrow.

I feel better for sharing my burden. Thanks for not telling me what I should have done better :o

This happened to me a few years back - I.e. I opened post which turned out to be some kind of advanced stage demand for lots and lots of money. I just phoned up the debt collection company and told them that the person no longer lived at the address and never heard anything else.

DW, who is perfect in every way, occasionally snores gently. I find it lovely to listen to. It feels companionable without requiring any conversation effort on my part. Mind you, she doesn't snore loudly enough to raise the rafters.

If a partner snores loudly, it may be a sign of sleep disordered breathing, which is a serious medical condition, that needs to be treated. Particularly, if they stop snoring for a minute then start gasping for breath.

I don't believe you can train someone not to snore, but you can train them to sleep on their side, which reduces snoring.

    HTH.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The recent stuff is more along the lines of 'so, you've just got a CCJ. Are you in financial hardship? Would you like us to sort your stuff it for a big fat fee?', which is what makes me think there is a public register of some sort.

Anyhow, phonecall today. Then that's it (couldn't see anyone likely on Facebook).
