But I don't think they knew they were 'in debt'. I really think they thought their account had been properly closed.
I'm mainly picturing them applying for a mortgage and getting turned down and wondering why.
To a much, much lesser extent I'm picturing bailiffs turning up, and angry ex-tenants turning up
Tricky as you've opened post .... but if a CCJ is settled in full within a month (I think), it's entirely removed. So if you feel THAT bad ... you could 'fess up to something or other and get an address from somebody, or at least make a couple of nods that look like you tried a bit.
Of course, the "smug" answer is they should have redirected their post, but that costs over £50/year per person.0 -

Kirstie's taking some utter old cr4p and turning it into even cr4ppier looking !!!! for some poor b4st4rd's house (ch 4). This is 'upcycling' at its worst .... and to think they had all the money, researchers, vans, budget, space, time, resources, tools and designers on board to achieve this level of cr4p.0

Post opened was just junk mail - they must publish lists of CCJs issued incl names and addresses.
I'll email the Uni. That's better than doing nothing.0 -
P.S. Nikkster ... don't forget, you can also lie if you feel a need to and say you'd bought the house, but had let a family member live in it for the last 6 months and so you weren't there ....
... and now just found ..... and didn't want that to happen ...... so .... got in touch ..... hope you fix it.... bye.

I've just bought a new Dell laptop for £160. I can't believe that it will do much at that price, but maybe I'll be surprised.
You'll be surprised.
I don't doubt that you'll be able to do 95% of what everyone does with a laptop... maybe not high end gaming, but writing documents, internet browsing, looking at !!!!!!, listening to dodgy music like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo2A_YXarUM .
Pretty much everything you'd ever want to do.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Nikks, it's also worth mentioning that some documents can't be diverted. For example, the people who lived here before didn't put a forwarding address in for their family tax credits and the post wouldn't divert (it automatically gets returned to sender).
People can be as annoyed as they want, but ultimately it is up to them to redirect their mail. If they choose not to, then it is at their risk. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Nah, I'd rather not. I shouldn't have to either.
Regardless of whether I've ever had my mail re-directed (once, I think) - this is what really should be done. Definitely not my fault that it wasn't. Likewise I'd guess you can provide a forwarding address when you close an account? Or they will also try and contact you by phone/ email if they have those details. The house was empty for possibly 4 months. I have no idea what happened in that time.
Just before I posted, I emailed a couple of official addresses (just in case, I don't have any ref numbers).
I'll call the Uni tomorrow.
I feel better for sharing my burden. Thanks for not telling me what I should have done better0
