Now you own your house you can replace the taps.
At a cost, so it becomes something that's not worth doing.

Except that double cream is lighter (less dense) than single cream.
Oh, is it? I don't know anything about cream .... double cream sounds thicker :) I always assumed that double cream would be thicker than single cream....... but I've never bought either, nor did we ever have either when I was growing up.

Ok, I have slightly over catered.

I only did half of what I was going to do for breakfast too.

It has a higher fat content. Single cream won't whip in the same way as whipping or double. The artificially thickened stuff, as opposed to naturally thick stuff, is weird, and something nicer and cleaner on the tongue can be made at home easily with double cream and a whisk. Real very thick cream is a treat.

Edit: weirdly though, skimmed milk holds great froth, better, for cappuccino.

So lucky to have so many free things. I'd have enjoyed something like that. I do like old stuff/archaeology stuff/social history stuff.

All that's free here this weekend is an opportunity to go to the quay, to see a few stalls, spend money at them and come away with your face painted (if you pay).

Extensive, fascinating free stuff is a great thing about London. But it's not just us, this time - it's national Archaeology Festival at the moment (ends this weekend) and there's stuff on all over the place. There really is a lot around, and most of the London stuff (walks, lectures, activities) has been free.

I got a A3 certificate in the post telling me that I have successfully paid my annual subscription monies to the ICAEW for 10 years and now I can call myself FCA instead of ACA. Just need a frame and that's the wall in the downstairs loo sorted.

Didn't you have to pass an exam or two as well as cough up the cash?

Is there anything that one can do about it? Can someone force a publication to include their name on a paper if they had significant input into it?

It may be quite difficult getting recognition as there will be 'powerful' forces at work to protect the status quo...afterall learned folk will have endorsed it, and no one likes admitting to being duped.

I have been at the fringe of this twice..but from the perspective of folk claiming work that was not theirs...the first a full blown academic plagiarism and the second where someone sought pecuniary advantage from a financial award linked to 'excellence'. In the second case, someone who was closely linked to the piece of work that was being claimed as a significant contributor was on the 'judging panel' and called foul.

    There were consequences...career and reputational.

Yeah, including the bit where Nikkster said "Will definitely be deleted. Will leave up until the end of the weekend"

    :)

I was particularly impressed by that bit, and I see that you repeated it, too. :)

    Ok, so gig was mixed.

Ticket sales were twenty percent up.
    Bar take was down, significantly.

This is obviously mixed news. A better appreciated gig is not necessarily a more profitable one!

The audience was I think mixed. More young people than ever before. And I don't mean just people who aren't pensioners, but bonafide young people, two young couples smart, I think American, stood out, and even, families! Committee was THRILLED at that. And positive feed back was really positive...

'Excellent programme, really excellent ' was my favourite, because choosing the set lists was difficult for this mixed audience and caused some ' discussion' lots of things like 'amazing' 'better than has ever played here' .

There was a radio guy who stopped in to listen on way home and stayed the whole gig and chatted to the guys in their breaks, he loved it.

Some though, looked truly bemused. Its not what they were expecting and they didn't know what to make of it.

We might have a recording, I.e, we recorded live, but not sure how it will have come out yet.

My parents bought the basic Howdens oven when theirs broke in the middle of winter. Works just fine for a basic oven.

Basic electric single ovens are usually a doddle to swap over. Ours just has a standard 13amp plug and four screws holding it in. A five minute job for someone with a newly acquired drill.

I think, too, that if you're used to lots of free stuff you'll actively seek it out. If free stuff is rare, then it's not on the radar to continually look.

I just did the "near you" on your link. There is a trail, 20 miles away, at an NT place (so need to be an NT member to get in free).

After that it was hard to find anything as there's no "search by postcode" or even county. It's by region - with the South West being from Gloucestershire to Lands End (250-300 miles). You'd need to scan through every one of them and know where all the places were (or Google the address) to find out if they were near.
You also can't filter by "free" and the short paragraph introductory doesn't indicate the costs.

Looks like there might be something 20 miles away ... but they don't make it easy to see/choose/decide really. Edit: Ah, no, that's £3, plus it'd be fuel and parking. Total cost is closer to £12+ then.... for something that didn't sound terribly interesting to start with :)

Edit 2: Ah, no, that was confusing, the £3 one's a 70 mile round trip :)
Edit 3: Ah, and that was last weekend anyway.

Edit 4: Right ... there are two today/this weekend in my county. One is a children's dig - and you get a phone number to find out more information, no clues about it apart from that. http://www.dorsetdiggers.btck.co.uk/Calendar
The other one's a maritime archaeology day - which is actually just an exhibition, 20 miles away. The website link takes you to a home page and there's no immediate information there and no clue where it is, or if there's a charge, or what's going on.

Ah, sorry PN. We looked through the whole thing in London a few weeks ago, and picked out the ones we wanted to do. So Headstone Manor last Sunday, a couple of the lectures, this Charterhouse thing, etc. All free.

WE came across it via a notice at the Museum of London in the first place.
