All that's free here this weekend is an opportunity to go to the quay, to see a few stalls, spend money at them and come away with your face painted (if you pay).neverdespairgirl wrote: »
Lacking heavy cream (whatever that is, but we have no cream, so I'm safe on a "no")
Yes, I think powdered sugar is icing sugar.0 -
What's free here this weekend?
Our carnival! This year they are going all out and holding it along almost the entire length of our prom with bands, stalls, air show (obviously in the sky and not on the prom), fireworks and a whole host of other stuff and all completely free.
Unfortunately, we will miss it...going on holiday! James will see it through but he will be working (on the seafront, so will be ultra busy), so won't really be able to really take part in it. Just the 3 of us for holiday this year as James is staying behind to build up cash reserves for uni.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Yup, heavy cream is double cream and powdered sugar is icing sugar.
My MiL and Mrs Generali translated a few cookbooks from American into Australian. I don't think I mentioned it before but I do like a cookbook: I have a Billy bookcase full of cookbooks (I had more but I did a cull).
Mrs Generali got a Thermomix as a present today. I'm yet to be persuaded that it represents good value. It seems to be a bloody good invention however. It's basically a not very flexible food processor with a heating element in it. I will report back as to how good it really is.
I'm thinking about having a go at strawberry jam in it tomorrow. If it's as good as 'proper' jam and as easy as it seems then it'll be Generali 0 - 1 Thermomix.0 -
Well, as an update:
- I'm onto the G+T (well, I am a (joint) homeowner (with the bank))
- I found my photocopy of my supervisor's lab book for the experiment I'm looking for a reference for.... the reference he's noted looks to me to have naff all to do with our experiment!
I also found 3 potential papers in my stash, but they haven't really helped me. So I'll post up the text, and underline what I think are the 'keywords'. Bearing in mind I've already tried searching them and not found what I was looking for.
Edit: I think this might be the first Greek symbol in the thread? We've had Latin before, but no Greek I think?
That is so impressive that it's worth repeating. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I slept the sleep of the just last night. I've not really been drinking recently, the cancer treatment has put me off somehow. Yesterday afternoon I had to go to see our Client Services team who just happened to be having a drink up which they invited me along to. Lots of fun. I didn't have a huge amount, 3 bottles of beer, but I slept deeply and heavily and well.
Great news! I wonder whether the sleeping soundly was a result of a) the beer, b) being relaxed after an evening out with colleagues, c) tiredness after going out and doing such stuff after a long time fighting physical issues, or d) a combination of the first three. Glad you had good time, and a good night's sleep. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Alive, exhausted, cannot find my pills in the upheaval. That's probably not the end of the world as they make me more tired but I WILL find them today.
Dog dog and kiwi slept on our bed last night and were really good. Kiwi normally sleeps in a crate, but last night he snuggled in with fir and the cats and I and dog dog lay at the end....she's not normally so obliging, I think she realised there were lots of us in that space!
Big dog slept in the garden and utility room, and....loved it! She was really joyous about it all. So much so I'm wondering how we can make it a solution for all of summer...0 -

I strolled round examining mattresses, & found one that was £650 in the clearance going for £305. Liked it, so went for it. When they billed me, the mattress was on their system for £149, & they honoured it!
All in all, saved about £250!
Where was this and will they do me one!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Exactly. It's just a cheapo bottle of Aldi plonk, but boy does it taste good this evening.
Panini press - it's exactly the same principle as a toasted sarnie maker, but has ridged plates instead of making 'pockets'.
Like here: http://paninihappy.com/make-your-own-ice-cream-cones-on-a-panini-press/
It was a moving in donation from a friend who'd been given it by some neighbours who were upgrading their panini press (!!!!!!?). It had been sat in my friend's cupboard as she had neither the use nor the space for it. I didn't really want it either, but since the oven got switched off it's actually been incredibly useful. There isn't much that can't be cooked on a panini press
Actually, I might have to buck up my thinking re the oven. Not only is autumn/ winter only getting closer, but I might have a temporary (6 weeks) lodger at the end of Aug...
Magnet trade are doing a full gas hob, oven and extractor set - Whirlpool - for £200 plus Vat this week.
Howdens also sell there basic lamona oven for £89.99 plus Vat at the moment. Not the best, but at that price it hardly matters.
If any of that helps, let me know.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
