I have been sitting out in dappled shade, not reading a book. Dog exhausted laid on the grass beside me...OH chopping down overgrown stuff at the back of teh stables is making me feel guilty. I need to do something.

So I have come indoors where I cannot see or hear his toil.

    That feels better.:D

    Ok, so gig was mixed.

Ticket sales were twenty percent up.
    Bar take was down, significantly.

This is obviously mixed news. A better appreciated gig is not necessarily a more profitable one!

The audience was I think mixed. More young people than ever before. And I don't mean just people who aren't pensioners, but bonafide young people, two young couples smart, I think American, stood out, and even, families! Committee was THRILLED at that. And positive feed back was really positive...

'Excellent programme, really excellent ' was my favourite, because choosing the set lists was difficult for this mixed audience and caused some ' discussion' lots of things like 'amazing' 'better than has ever played here' .

There was a radio guy who stopped in to listen on way home and stayed the whole gig and chatted to the guys in their breaks, he loved it.

Some though, looked truly bemused. Its not what they were expecting and they didn't know what to make of it.

We might have a recording, I.e, we recorded live, but not sure how it will have come out yet.

If you only judge it on proceeds then mixed sounds fair...but it sounds like cuturally and musically it was holding its own. You may have a Glastonbury in the making.

    Congratulations.

Ah, sorry PN. We looked through the whole thing in London a few weeks ago, and picked out the ones we wanted to do. So Headstone Manor last Sunday, a couple of the lectures, this Charterhouse thing, etc. All free.

WE came across it via a notice at the Museum of London in the first place.

    Thank you.

It looks good, some things easily travelable form here, but I have missed them. At least one of them I may have had teh company of DD for if she was available.

    Perhaps next time.

No, never have been. But sounds good.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

You WERE doing something - following orders! Rest, relax ... they said. So do it and be seen to be doing it .... then tell them how great it feels and you're glad they insisted on it as you really are feeling more stable :) Note, not "better" or they'll expect you back as you were (waiting on them hand and foot) ....

Basic electric single ovens are usually a doddle to swap over. Ours just has a standard 13amp plug and four screws holding it in. A five minute job for someone with a newly acquired drill.

You've not factored in the fear of the plug..... questions come to mind like "really? a plug - in a socket? how do I know I'm doing the right thing, not had one with a plug before, won't it overload/catch fire?"

And I've seen these questions asked here on MSE before in the correct forum .... and fights break out over who is best/qualified to change over an oven and whether a plug is right/wrong, or the wrong sort of plug/socket/whatever.

I begrudge having to pay to go into a fenced enclosure .... to look at stalls/potentially buy stuff, while some utterly dire/cr4p music is playing. Makes you wonder what you're paying for .... the band/s? You can usually stick those right up *****
    :)

I stumbled across one the other year, some "big" (fenced area was smaller than one of those elongated/round school running grounds) Thai Food Festival. Usual stuff: stalls you can buy stuff from, lots of cr4p music playing. And they wanted an entrance fee (£2.50), on top of the parking fee you'd also had to pay. http://poolethaifestival.co.uk/ ... and this year there's a Lady Boy Show. http://poolethaifestival.co.uk/2014-programme.html

Strawberry Fair, Cambridge, is worth a visit. Huge area, main common in the centre (round the corner from the bus station, but 1.5 miles from the station) .... free. Loads of tents/bands, people all sitting on the grass scoffing/drinking, riverside, trees/shade. Anybody who fancied that, it's in June, so you've missed it http://www.strawberry-fair.org.uk/sf14.html

A healthy respect for electricity has its place. However, if an appliance comes with a 13 amp plug on it, it can be plugged in. Safely. The whole system is very carefully worked out so as to protect the entire population, including those who are not very bright. You don't need to know how it works, although that helps a little. For someone intelligent, clearly with an IQ several standard deviations above the mean, to be scared of electricity, something is clearly wrong. It is not scary stuff, but you do have to be careful. The very worst that should go wrong is that there are too many appliances on a particular circuit, so a fuse blows or a trip switch trips. Nothing to be OCD about. Nothing will catch fire or blow up.

Fairly clearly, if an oven was plugged in before, the chances are that you can plug in an oven again. It would be worth checking the wattage of the new oven, to check it is under 3kw, before buying it. Anything under 3kw can be plugged in, just like an electric kettle.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

All of my relaxing yesterday had a price to it. I was awake a lot last night.

Not even I can idle around for 24 hours at a time.

I feel so well at present, it is fabulous. Even staying on top of chores. It really is helping that I have cut down on working, especially as it is so hot. That I am actively taking myself the beach so that I cannot 'do' things is part of it, but as a family we all feel life is better because I have a bit more energy and less constraints.

Made gazpacho for lunch..a poor mans version as I used chopped tomatoes and a carton of tomato juice, but it was good, refreshing and a whole lot better than not having gazpacho as I could not rustle up enough fresh tomatoes. There is coffee chilling for iced coffee later, now I will help OH take teh garden trimmings to the tip. He is still off bonfires and it is less manual labour to take the carp to the car than it is to take it up to the top of the garden.
