Thanks everyone for the tips. I've already got the brochure for Haigh Hall but the others I haven't heard of so thanks very much for them.
Good luck with the weddings yourselves x0 -
Hi
Don't know if this is in the right area, but we are getting married in September at the Whoop Hall Hotel near Kirkby Lonsdale. It's really reasonable. As long as you have your wedding breakfast and evening reception in the same room, there is no charge, although there's a £300 charge to hold the civil ceremony in the room.
They've been fantastic so far and really helpful and their food & drink packages & accommodation are very reasonable.
Wherever you choose, have a fantastic day!
Sophie
Here is link to their website - www.whoophall.co.uk0 -
Have you looked at Ruthin Castle.?
Had a brochue through the post the other week and it looks georgeous!!! A proper princess wedding!!

oh forgot to add. I've seen lots of photos of beautiful weddings at Portmeirion village (Italian like village where Prisoner was fillmed) and it's very reasonable!

Not sue how north your thinking of but the national trust have a beautiful statley home in llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (longest name in Britain)

During April to Nov it's fridays only (when house is closed to the public) around £750 for venue only (would have to have marquee) but it's such a beautiful place and fascinating history. It's well worth a look. If it's a large wedding and guests would be staying, it could be a problem.0 -
We're getting wed a fortnight today at the Shireburn Arms, Hurst Green near Clitheroe. It came highly recommended. So far their service has been excellent. www.shireburnarmshotel.com
They have about 20 rooms, with access to more at the pub up the road, same ownership.
We've just booked our wedding there for next yearIt's a lovely place! with lovely views of the Ribble Valley.
Hope the sun reappears for you!
MrsJ2008 - the deal we've got is really good as we're having our wedding during the week - worth a look0 -
Hi Girls, Thanks once again for the recommendations. This site has been more useful than the wedding ones!!
Sophie - Whoop Hall. My SIL 2 b recommended there too. I've got the brochure, just need to have a nosey round now.
Welshlamb - I went to Ruthin Castle on Thursday, what a lovely little village. Castle itself was rather nice but didn't like the room we would get married in. Plus it may just be that little bit too far for everyone to travel to. I got the brochures for Portmeirion but decided that was definately too far away. Been on the trust website though, that looks really good for ideas.
350nutter & Carrera 74 - Thanks for the note. I looked at the website and it looks just right. My FIL 2b has put a request in - anywhere as long as they serve a good pint! So reckon this could be the one. Do either of you have any pics from inside?
Once again, thanks everyone you've been really helpful x0 -
I've got a few pics from when we booked. There was a wedding on there later in the day and they let us have a mooch about so we took some sneaky pics too
If you PM your email address I'll send them to you. I'm sure there is a way to upload them on here but I've looked and I'm not sure how to do it.

Houghton Tower(between Preston & Blackburn) is stunning. Also we went to my cousins wedding at the Dukenhaulgh Hotel think its Clayton le Moors wa svery nice although its a couple of years ago. Also another cousin had hers at the Last drop village which as i remember was fantastic.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.
And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.

My sister had a civil ceremony here and her reception in the Devonshire, it wasn't especially expensive, she did have a pretty tight budget, also the Devonshire was reasonable. If you have your wedding out of season it's cheaper. I'm getting married in 2010 and have earmarked the Alicia Hotel in sefton park and Leasowe Hotel in birkenhead. Have a look at:
http://www.leasowecastle.com/
They have special offers here:

I can send you a copy of the email I got from them if you like, with the menus and more details of the offers, but it seems reasonable to me and could help with your budget.
good luck and hth:A :
