Ideas On Northwest Wedding Venues

Hi All,

I'm planning on getting married in 2008 and have looked at loads of venues from the Lake District down to North Wales but can't find anything we like (we live in Southport).

Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Basically we want somewhere that has been decorated in the past 10 years!
Not too overpriced for drinks?
Reasonably priced accommodation either at venue or nearby for guests.
Able to hold a civil ceremony.

A few places we like but are not quite right are - The Queen (Chester), Alicia Hotel (Liverpool), Llyndair (North Wales), Springfield House (Pilling), Peckforton Castle (Tarporley) & Ruthin Castle (North Wales).

Have you tried 'West Tower' country house hotel at Aughton? We went to a wedding there a few weeks ago. It's a lovely venue and although only has 10 or so rooms, most guests stayed at the travel lodge near Switch Island.

I have but unfortunately it's really expensive - between £4,000 & £5,000 just to hire the venue EXCLUDING food!
  • You could try Croxteth Hall in Liverpool, but I'm not sure if it is expensive. I do know that the Liverpool Register Office has a list of licensed venues on their website, so check that out. Hope it all goes well.

I did a wedding at Peckforton Castle once as a florist and wouldn't reccomend it anyway ,found the staff most unhelpfull .

Have you tried Knowsley hall (just looked at web site seems very expensive:cool: ) or Walton hall gardens?

Not sure on prices though ,another nice place I have "done" is Lawson house ,Runcorn

I did look at Croxteth Hall but can't remember why I excluded it (think it was expensive). I've been into the Liverpool Office and they were really helpful :rotfl:

I am getting married at the holiday Inn in Bolton, its a converted church the room we are getting married in and is stunning.

We are getting married on a Friday and is going to cost around 3.5k for the room hire, sit down meal, drinks package and evening buffet.

Here is a photo tour, you will know the room I am on about as soon as you see it. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/925/en/hpt/BTNCC/2/pt?ptLink=hd

Have you got the details of the weddings in the Lake District online? http://www.golakes.co.uk/weddings/ They did do a paper copy of a lovely wedding brochure via the registry office in Kendal but not sure if they still do.

We married at Haigh Hall. Although I would admit the carpet looks to be the same one from 7 years ago...
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

We're getting wed a fortnight today at the Shireburn Arms, Hurst Green near Clitheroe. It came highly recommended. So far their service has been excellent. www.shireburnarmshotel.com

They have about 20 rooms, with access to more at the pub up the road, same ownership.
