Middle Lane Hoggers - I hate them!

This would mean that any vehicle going below 56mph would end up getting tailgated by HGVs who could not legally overtake, which would create more danger than it would solve. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Anyone doing less than 56mph on a motorway needs their licence taking off them, they are a danger to themselves0 -

If I'm only travelling 1 junction to the next town (about 5 miles away) and I'm in no particular hurry I will probably just cruise in the slow lane at about 55, as going faster will only save a couple of minutes and I would have to faff about overtaking trucks etc. If I have a long journey I will probably do about 65 as this is a good compromise between eating up the miles and saving fuel.0 -
Ive lost track of the amount of times the overhead signs have been on suggesting 50 or 60 as a speed limit when im on the M6, and the motorway isnt actually busy as lane 1 is empty, i think the problem is many middle lane hoggers dont see themselves as middle lane hoggers so they'll never change.
There are new things that annoy me now, going home from work i do junction 6-7 of the M6, and in rush hour the hard shoulder is open. about 1 mile before the junction the signs change from "congestion, use hard shoulder" to "hard shoulder for junction 7 only." Twice this week i have got to the actual slip road part and the pr1ck in front of me has stopped as he isnt actually getting off, but is going to rejoin the main carriageway...
all in all i think as a country we are becoming more and more selfish as drivers, hence middle lane hoggers and people who dont care about delaying everyone behind them so that they can be 1/4 mile further up a lane of traffic...0 -

Can't rejoin the main carriageway if it's full, he has to wait for a gap in the traffic overtaking him.0 -
Most middle lane hoggers are put off being in lane one because, when they want to pass the HGV they are slowly catching up to, they get stuck in lane one because of the ignorant 80+mph drivers boring down in lane two who fail to recognise or consider that the car in lane one may wish to move into lane two. They are generally the more timid driver who is frightened by the aggression of such a driver, so they find that sticking in lane two minimises that conflict.
The solution is for all quicker drivers to assist these more passive drivers by accommodating their move from lane one to lane two without fuss. This will make the more passive driver more comfortable about sitting in lane one, if he can easily pull into lane two when needed without the (perceived) threat of conflict or aggression.
I think the slower drivers need to think about their approach to overtaking on a motorway/dual carriageway.
My dad would sit and wait and wait and wait for a gap, then indicate and pull into it. he would sometimes get so frustrated on busy roads due to their being no gap.
So i told him what i do, indicate as soon as you know you want to pull out, then look for a gap. even on busiest roads, you may have to wait 1 or 2 cars who cannot or wont slow down enough, but sure enough someone will usually hang back and let you out. I have found that when you're dealing with the Audi's, BMWs, Range Rovers in rush hour times, they're more likely to let you out if your car looks quick, then if you are in a Honda Jazz for example, but my dad changed his approach and finds it much easier, as people know his intention and some are kind enough to let him out0 -
The ones I hate most are the HGV's that insist on overtaking a line of 4 or more other HGV's (all driving at close to speed limit) which take them at least 5 miles to do so. This effectively reduces a 3 lane motorway to 2 and all lanes get clogged.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Yep, and it's worse still on a 2 lane M'way or a dual carriageway A road like the A1, where a 5 mile overtake is often followed a couple of minutes later by another 5 mile overtake.0 -
Why do you hog the middle lane? I hate you for it.
The middle lane is only for overtaking slower moving vehicles travelling in the inside lane so why oh why do so many drivers spend almost all their journey in that lane.

Steady on, it's not like they're stealing your first born child!
I don't find them that annoying, far less annoying than the idiots in BMWs who come up behind you in the fast lane when you're going the same speed as the cars in front of you but leaving a sensible safety distance between yourself and the car in front. When I let them past they get about 30 metres further ahead and start harassing the next driver.
With middle lane hogs, at least you can get past them by going in the FAST lane - it's not rocket science.0
