My record on the A50 is watching 2 lorries battling it out for 8.5 miles. The one in the right hand lane only won because the other turned off. The right hand lorry was abreast of the other to the end. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Drivers can help by maintaining a lorry-sized gap in Lane 1 behind the lorry being "overtaken".
Also allow space behind the overtaking lorry so they can brake once they realise it's not going to work.
Lorry drivers are doing themselves no favours by blocking the roads in this way, as other drivers are likely to become reluctant to let them out.0 -
It has begun to irritate me now I drive on the a50 every day. Lorries trying to overtake other lorries, realising they can't and sitting in the right hand lane! I've only got a little car and it's things like this which have led to me having to repair my windscreen after 3.5 months of owning the car because of sitting behind a lorry that flicks stones at my car!
It sounds like you're driving too close behind the lorry.
Drop back double the distance and the stones probably won't reach you. If they do, they won't hit your car with as much force.
I can also understand the frustration but driving closely behind them won't make they go faster if they're already at their maximum speed. All your base are belong to us.0 -
I like(hate) seeing someone in Lane 1 creep up to the back of a lorry, with a clear lane to their right, who get right up to the lorry before even considering their next move. That usually involves braking and THEN indicating to come out.
Of course, by this time, they are then doing the same speed as the lorry and struggle to overtake them
I was under the impression that we were all born with a set of eyes and some sort of cognitive level of visual perception. Obviously not.0 -
If a car joins the carriageway doing 35 then what's dangerous about overtaking them?0

My opinion would be that if we are is more courteous and patient with each other the roads would be safer and we would get where we're going faster.
There are people that sit in the middle lane oblivious of what their doing - part of the problem.
There are people that don't accept that there needs to be 200m+ gap between vehicles in the inside lane for there to be any point in moving in - they take their frustration out on others, tailgating and refusing to let drivers out from inside lanes when they need to - part of the problem
There are people that deliberately don't pull in when they can - either from a often justified fear they will not easily be able to get back out when the time comes or lack of confidence or simple arrogance (I'm going the speed limit so you don't need to overtake) - part of the problem
There is positive feedback loop that re-enforces this behavior - you don't let someone out , they stay out longer next time , you become even less likely to let people out , they stay out even longer... Don't be part of the problem - become part of the solution and show more respect, tolerance and courtesy to other road users.0 -

If there's another car in the lane beside you, currently overtaking you then you either have to slam on the brakes or crash into them.
When i done my lessons i was taught if you were coming off a slip road to join another road try and make best efforts to match the speed of the traffic / road you're joining.
A lot of the time, i see the opposite and people slow down coming to the slip road then pull out in front of people at the last minuteAll your base are belong to us.0 -

I can assure you that I was far enough back from both of them. I had someone behind me tailgating me as well which did not help. Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016
