Where a speed limit is not contained within a red circle it is not of prescribed form and is therefore unenforceable and there purely for advice/guidance.0

I'm not sure if there was a circle around the number or not all I am positive on is that it was a sign to the left side of the road and it was all red writing0 -

Okay - we're getting technical here, but there are two types of gantry signs in use. The LED variable speed signs produce a distinctly round, distinctly white national speed limit sign. The old signs produce a yellowish, squarish sign made up from individual light bulbs. Either way, once the NSL sign is shown, there would not be speed detection for a previous limit below 70mph.
edit: There are also other gantry signs in use that show "End", but presumably we aren't talking about that here.
Here are new LED signs showing NSL.0 -

I'm really not sure what this sign was I think I'm just going to have to wait it out and hope for the best considering I'm not even sure what motorway I was on just know where I was heading0 -

Pop into a book shop and see if you can get a copy of the highway code and find the sign.0 -

Haha yeah that's very true just don't want to get any points that's all just for a simple mistake0 -
Sounds as though you'll be okay.
For future reference, there are variable speed signs on the M20 through the Maidstone area. I don't think the M23/M25/M26 have them in the area you were in.0 -
