I was travelling to gatwick airport today from chatham kent and on a certain part of either m25 m20 or m23 I'm not sure which suddenly had a electronic sign to go down to 40 nobody else was doing this I stayed at 60mph and now I'm worried I may get a speeding fine and points

And what do you actually want? It's just a waiting game to see if you went through any active gantry cameras.0

Was it a variable speed limit sign, normally on a gantry above each lane and looking like a normal speed limit sign with a red circular border, or one of the square signs that are either above each lane or on the central reservation that show a speed figure but no red border.
If the latter then these are purely advisory, if the former then it depends on whether there were any speed cameras in operationThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks for your reply it was a black screen on the sign showing a 40 sign and warning triangle then a bit further down the road the national speed limit signs showed across the screen in all lanes0 -

If the black screen was on the gantry it may have had a set of cameras to the rear. It is impossible to tell if these are active or not, so it's just a waiting game.0 -
agreed , its either happened , or it hasnt , so its a waiting game , nothing you can do about it so quit worrying0

Out of curiosity how fast were you going?0

Thanks, if it did have cameras and I was doing 60 how many points am I looking at? And I'm guessing I won't get a speed awareness course0 -

If you were doing 60 mph then the CPS and ACPO recommend that you should receive a Fixed Penalty Notice for 3 points and £100. If you were doing 66 mph or over you could be looking at a summons.
But, the cameras may not have been switched on so there is no point worrying.0 -

What happens if you get a summons? How long does it usually take to get a nip?0
