Premier League Soccer is also coming up for renegotiation - I think the bidding has been brought forward to October/November....guess which satellite broadcaster is not favourite to win that one either....
    this 'offer' stinks....

December. With the winning bidders expected to be announced no later than Jan 2015.

I can see Sky going all out for the new Premier League rights. I certainly imagine it will be another recording breaking deal for the Premier League from the broadcasters.

Losing the Champions League was bad, losing the majority of Premier League rights would be a disaster for Sky as it was the bedrock on which they built up their dominance.

I don't know figures, but logically it would seem that Premier League football brings more revenue and subscribers for Sky & BT than Champions League football did/will so neither will go down without a big fight!

I don't think if you do nothing, the channel will magically appear.

It has on mine. Although I had another e-mail yesterday pestering me to "activate to keep watching", without any mention of an actual deadline.
  • Naughty misleading Sky

It was always just a poor marketing ploy. The channel was already broadcasting for weeks with just a countdown to launch. Sky could hardly withhold the channel from Sky Sports subscribers who didn't "activate" it. I made a specific point of not clicking on the "activate" button and the channel was available to me on launch day just like every other channel available as part of my subscription. I certainly didn't want their free internet offer!

    Not really.
Sky were careful not to make any mention of "activation" as the only means to access the channel. It was left to everyone to "interpret" what it meant.

Actually, it's rather an odd move. Did Sky really think many people would be so ill-informed as to activate the channel and free two-year broadband not knowing that Sky had only one more season of Champion's League?
Why are Sky calling Sky Sports 5 the "new home" of Champions League?

Are they? I've only heard it quoted as "the new home" of European football. Which brought a smile to a few faces, particularly James Richardson's, who presents BT's superb European Football show. Hmm...

So Sky are clearly pinning their hopes on the Dutch League etc which seems to be all they'll have next season when Champions League migrates to BT.

As you've said, pretty much a Sky PR disaster.

Oh, just watching SS5 earlier and they said it. "Sky Sports 5 - the 'new home' of Champions League football."

Its difficult to judge this one. Sky are a business and are promoting what they have atm, so no criticism there. But this, combined with the 'free' BB re-contract offer which users don't actually have to take, smacks of desperation.
