Ladies - help me find a good bra!

Just a word of warning- I know it used to be the case that Bravissimo didn't go above a 38 back.
I'm lucky to fill a C cup now so I don't so much have that problemI'm a size 12-14 now but still wear a 40 or 42 back although I've just bought a 42C from Asda and it's actually baggy but some 40 bras I've tried on cut off my circulation
at my biggest I was measured at a 50 A  is that even possible :rotfl: Evans aren't much cop at bra fitting as my 46Cs were absolutely fine and even the fitter said they looked fine.!!

I'm a 38F and feel your pain.
Personally I have never had any luck at M&S. Bravissimmo they wanted to fit it too tight around my body (i think i was in between sizes tbh) and sold it on ebay!
I find Freya, and Gorgeous at Debenhams the most consistent. I buy my freya ones from Brastop as they are cheaper as they "are so last year darling".
Also not all styles suit all people. I have had some success at Asda but some of their styles look awful and just push my boobs under my arms! And why I want a plunge style in my size I'll never know. The balconette seems to be the best style for me, as another poster said if i get a full cup i get baginess at the top. I also have problems with wires being too long and pushing into your armpit very painfully.
Yet another problem I have is i'm very short so there is not much room between the bottom of my bust and my waist so if it's too tight its really uncomfortable especially when I've just eaten. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -

I get this too plus I can stand up all day in a wired Asda bra and all is fine but the moment I sit/slouch it digs in and becomes unbearable I have to undo any bra at the back after a meal.
I have had most success/comfort with the secret support bra/vest from Marks and Spencer. I have four now and wear them all the time. Not 100% comfy but sometimes I forget I am wearing a bra and that is a rare happening....and they are fairly cheap :money: http://www.marksandspencer.com/secret-support-cotton-rich-dd-g-bra-vest/p/p223008360 -
I've always been a bravissimo girl (36H/HH) but this year I've discovered Ewa Michalak http://www.ewa-michalak.pl
They're a polish brand that a lot of lingerie bloggers are talking about and they've literally changed my life! I'd recommend them to anyone, the bras are amazing, fab support and I stay in place all day!
For sizing, try http://www.sophisticatedpair.com/bracalculator.htm
It's the most accurate sizing I've ever had including 'instore' fittings!

I'm a size 32f and buying bras has always been a pain. like clothing sizes you can buy two bras of the same size and they won't fit the same.
I find bravissimo very expensive so I go there to try on and check brastop website to see if they have the same bra (it's cheaper). If they don't I will buy from there.
specific bras I have found good are the fantasie esme and gossard glossies which are totally sheer (not my favourite) but they give a nice shape. I tend to buy 3 or 4 bras that give a good shape and I'll sacrifice pretty for this (although these bras are not really ugly). Then I'll buy a pretty bra or two from anywhere that sells them big enough!0 -
Not for the faint hearted Im afraid but if you think you may be able to help please read on.
Im unfortunate enough to have a large chest:o
Im a 42DD and Im sick of my boobs looking like they are 2 footballs bouncing on my chest. I want to keep them up where they belong and not have them meeting my waist!
Ive tried and tried to find a GOOD pretty bra which actually does the job. I find with most of them that when I tighten the straps to lift my boobs higher my boobs start to fall out of the bottom of the bra:rotfl:
Too be honest it seems like ages since I last saw them where they are supposed to be, I don't want to look like Madonna with twin cones but I do want to be able to stand in a changing room and try a dress on and have it look decent.
ive been measured in M&S but still cant seem to keep the damn things in place.
Some people have mid-drift bulge, I have 2 lots! at the waist and another above it.
Anyone have the same problem and where can I get a good bra.
I've found this thread really helpful. I think God must have been checking a text message or something when he was mixing me, as he was definitely very heavy-handed on the "large shirt-potatoes" front...
Thanks for asking the question Swingaloo! x0 -
Thank you all for the replies, what a minefield its turned out to be.
Ive read them all and decided to try as many of the shops as I can as what some swear by dosnt seem to do for others.
Yesterday while I was out in the local retail park I popped into the M&S there. I decided that rather than get measured I would spend an hour trying on different sizes and styles.
I only bought one as I want to shop around a bit before buying any more but what can I say!
Its like having a shelf fitted just under my chin, Im feeling the need to actually skip everywhere as Im now in no danger of black eyes or bruised knees, they are actually 'Up where they belong!!!!':T
Thank you all.0 -
A tip I was given from a small lingerie shop is when putting on a bra, put your arms through the straps then bend forward so that your breast swing free and then drop them into the bra cups.
hold the wires at the sides and jiggle the bra so that your breasts settle into the cups properly then stand up and fasten the bra.
Glad you've had some success.0 -
Only just seen the thread. However, I found Bravissimo really helpful. I visited their Manchester store some years ago when I was visiting family. They did not bother with any sort of tape measure and the fit was amazing.
DD is now 14 and although petite was struggling to find a suitable bra. Again in the Manchester area we visited La Senza who measured her but then had to send her to Boux Avenue as she was a 30DD and their smallest back size was 32. La Senza advised her to write to the CEO to complain (which she did) as they said they were losing business to Boux Avenue. Anyway Boux Avenue fitted her and she looked amazing. Now she knows her size, she has used other shops like Triumph who again provided a great fit. But she cannot get anything to fit in M&S, presumably they don't think teens have that shape naturally....!0 -
Ooh, a subject close to my heart and ample bosom! Haven't read all the replies but here's mine:
M&S = rubbish for me. I haven't brought a bra from there since for nearly 15 years. Periodically, I do go back and give it a go but they just don't fit nicely.
I have been fitted at M & S and Debenhams - both awful! Got a fitting at an independent bra shop run by a woman who worked for rigby and peller. Amazing! I learned that most women need to go DOWN a back size and UP a cup size. I thought I was a 36D but was actually a 32F! I have gone up and down since, but always keep that in mind. Your bra should fit snug on the loosest fitting so as they are washed and stretch you tighten it up at the back. If the back is riding up, the back size is too big.
I shop online at Brastop and am enamoured of Curvy Kate, though have recently discovered that not all their styles fit the size I currently get. I buy them when they are on offer so haven't spent more than £15 on a bra for a long time!0
