Money boxes! Fines for stopping in yellow boxes
Comments
-
I too got caught out today but my issue is slightly different. I stopped on a keep clear sign. I never actually saw it. The box junction is clearly behind me in their photo.
Can I appeal?
Keep Clear markings are advisory. It's not an offense to stop on them.
What did they 'catch you' for?0 -
I just got a PCN for contravening on this junction and am feeling a little hard done by (hold your fire for a moment!)....
The yellow box is 3-4 vehicle lengths in size. It is positioned a few yards before traffic lights at a fork in the road - left lane goes onto the A3, right lane goes onto the South Circular.
When I entered it, travelling in the right-hand lane, my exit was clear, but as I entered it TWO vehicles ahead of me in the left lane switched lanes at the last minute - presumably realising at the last minute that they were in the wrong lane. At that point the lights changed of course, so I was left stranded at the edge of the yellow box.
So technically I am bang to rights but really don't see what I could have done to avoid it.
I'm thinking about appealing, as perhaps TFL may have video which would support my case, but if I decided to appeal (within 14 days of receiving the PCN) would I lose the opportunity to pay the 50% early payment discount if my appeal is rejected?0 -

Interesting that you should say "hold your fire"... Next time you pass that particular box junction, look to your left, and ponder upon WHY there might be a box junction outside that particular building.

Haha I should have known that you can't silence the trolls!0 -
Ask for a copy of the video, you may have to go & see it at one of their offices.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

That's ideally what I'd like to do. My main reservation is: even the video confirms what I've described above, if they ignore my objection on the grounds that I was still technically in the wrong - i.e. I entered and stopped in the box junction - if the whole process takes more than 14 days to decide would I lose the option to pay the discounted 50% rate?0 -

If what you say is true, you entered the junction with your exit clear & therefore committed no offence... stopping in a box junction isn't the offence on it's own.
Only you know if it's worth the risk of losing the discounted rate?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Technically the offence is "Entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited", which I did. If the adjudicator happens to have got out of bed on the wrong side then he could choose to ignore the mitigating circumstances. If that all happens within 14 days then I'll still have the option of paying the 50% reduced fine (a bargain at £65).
Sounds like I should lodge an objection anyway, and if I hear nothing after 13 days maybe send payment anyway....0 -

No the offence is...7.—(1) Except when placed in the circumstances described in paragraph 8, the road markings shown in diagrams 1043 and 1044 shall each convey the prohibition that no person shall cause a vehicle to enter the box junction so that the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles.
Translated as you can enter as long as your exit is clear! Stopping in a box junction isn't an offence in itself, the cause of that stopping might be
