I guess it's of some use if you shop in Lidl and Aldi in England.

Aldi take credit card so I would pay with my 123 cashback card, giving me at least 3 times as much as Tesco would. And I can spend the cashback where I like.

Not sure about Lidl. I don't even know where the nearest one is.

Hi I've decided that this thread may be an appropriate place to ask my question? I want a new current account, I have current accounts with Barclay's & Lloyd's & I hate them both because they epitomise the main stream banking culture in the UK. I have no interest in credit ratings as mine are in the sub basement. (Long story but I do have a debt reduction plan in place) I'm looking for a bank that uses common sense in determining a request for short term assistance with overdrafts when £3000 pm is running through the account. Credit rating won't change for many years. Do I have any options or should I put my salary under my pillow & pay my debtors manually on my terms?

Afraid, you are not likely to get overdrafts with your financial history. Check out the basic bank accounts article, and there is also a dedicated forum thread for basic accounts.

I just have two savings accounts with Tesco. I applied for a current account and an error message came up while they were doing check at end. So tried again and application was completed and is showing that my current account is being processed underneath my savings accounts. So tried to apply for a second current account and received this message:-

    Your application

Sorry, you're not eligible for this account

You can only have two Tesco Bank current accounts.

Our records show you already have two accounts with us.

    Anyone else have this problem?

You should probably have started a new thread. But there are worse sins in life.

Given that they are mainstream banks you could hardly expect any different.

Common sense in assessing credit facilities for somebody who has a record of not repaying their debts on time would be to reject the application.
Credit rating won't change for many years. Do I have any options or should I put my salary under my pillow & pay my debtors manually on my terms?
Why can't you be paid into an account with a bank, not go overdrawn and continue to manage your debts down in accordance with this plan you mention?

I'd suggest posting on the Debt-free Wannabe forum and asking for help there.

Dealing with debt is rarely helped by taking on more debt.

I reckon your first, abandonned, application still hangs about, and the system thinks you have two valid applications on the go. Best to call them. I managed to get both applications completed, and they both show underneath my savings accounts.

I have just completed an application online without problem but when I tried to open a second account I got an error message that simply said "an error has occurred" exit.
    I will try again later.....

If one of your existing savings accounts is an old-style Clubcard Plus account, then that would explain the message - as they seem to class that as a current account too.

Since when did Aldi accept credit cards in England?
