I wasn't aware that Tesco's are about to introduce a product like this. I have a savings account with tuppence in it with them, don't suppose I can ring up tescos and tell them to close that account and make me a current account and transfer my funds across?

If not, I'll pass on the details of the savings account to Co-op who'll close it down for me by the switching service and give me a £100 joining incentive. Then, I'll go back to tesco's and open this current account with them.

As I see it, you apply for the current account and then transfer your tuppence from your savings account using online banking.

Or - you could call Tesco Bank and go through the process over the phone ....?

Thanks OP, just applied for 2 accounts to take some of my Lloyds Vantage money. Got accepted but they don't immediately open the accounts or give sort code and account numbers.

I presume their partner/supplier is RBS

No, sorry. Tesco bought RBS's 50% share .... six years ago ...!

With the clubcard element of the account I wonder how this will go for staff who have a staff discount clubcard ; whether they still need to carry the other card with them too.

Staff do not pay the £5pm account fee - BUT you have to apply from the staff website (ourtesco.com) to get staff terms.

If you apply online (via the Staff link), you enter your (staff) card number as part of the application process. This then links your Privilege Card to your (new) Tesco Current Account Debit Card. So - I think - you need to pay for your purchases at Tesco with your Tesco Debit Card and this then awards your Clubcard points via your linked Privilege Card.

Simples (..... well, maybe, but not clear! :))

I presume their partner/supplier is RBS, the same as their savings accounts.

The sortcode appears to be in the HSBC range.

Do you get an instant decision when making your application online?

Not necessarily. I got a message saying they needed to carry out checks to complete the application & that they would "be in touch shortly."

Application process falls over. I tried but it doesn't like the fact I was born in 1952 - keeps saying "This field is required" even though it is clearly present.

Maybe TSB will be easier, AND I understand they don't make one wait for paperwork before actually opening the account.

Maybe I'm missing something but why is nobody excited about earning points on debit card spend?

OK, the earning rate is not that great but what do you expect? I will be using this debit card to pay off my Amex (and other credit card) bills, and to buy a car in the next few months as well as at any other merchant who charges a credit card fee, such as certain travel agents.

This may be why Tesco savings doesn't accept deposits by debit card any more... I believe NS&I still does.
