Was the cake iced... I can't think what it's called but the kind you lay over the cake in a sheet? If so, it'll keep for ages! I'd be more upset if the friend cut into it only because I was hurrying her along, when she had had enough cake really so the rest would go to waste. Much better to keep the cake uncut and therefore fresh so she can eat it when she really fancies it. I'd just leave it now. If it's a nice cake and she's kept it to eat later, she'll let you know it was nice when she's eaten it. If it was horrible, she might not tell you (but maybe better than you don't tell your relative that anyway?).

No, it's not bad taste to ask if they like it...Like:

    "Do you like it?"
"It looks lovely! Thanks very much!"

That's kind of a normal response to being given a cake.

    "Do you like it?"
"It looks lovely! Thanks very much!"
"I want to know if it's tasty - let's have some later in the week"
    "OK, super duper!"

    That's...err...OK.

    "Do you like it?"
"It looks lovely! Thanks very much!"
"I want to know if it's tasty - let's have some later in the week"
    "OK, super duper!"
Later in the week: "Did you try it yet!!?"

    That's...err...pushy?

    "Do you like it?"
"It looks lovely! Thanks very much!"
"I want to know if it's tasty - let's have some later in the week"
    "OK, super duper!"
Later in the week: "Did you try it yet!!?"
"Err, not got round to it yet..."
Later still: "How about now!? The cakemaker needs to know!"

    That's bordering on "not cool".

At this stage, you can cut your losses and leave it there or head for:

    "Do you like it?"
"It looks lovely! Thanks very much!"
"I want to know if it's tasty - let's have some later in the week"
    "OK, super duper!"
Later in the week: "Did you try it yet!!?"
"Err, not got round to it yet..."
Later still: "How about now!? The cakemaker needs to know!"
    ...
Next week: "Hey! !!!!!!? Tell me how great my cake was already!"

At which stage she'll probably make sure her rabbit cage is double locked....

    :rotfl:funniest post I've read in ages!!:T

What's this yule log incident everyone is talking about?!

I think both sides are at fault here. Receiver of cake should've been honest and simply admitted she hasn't been able to try it, or that she's frozen it for later, or simply that she was swamped in cake and it went stale. OP shouldn't have nagged her about trying something which was supposed to be a gift.

It was a thread posted just after Xmas about someone spilling some gravy in between the kitchen & dining room and insisting on cleaning it up, thereby delaying the grand entrance of.........

    THE YULE LOG. :snow_laug

Pretty funny, aileth. Pity you missed it.

Will try and find it aileth, was v funny. The OP (of that thread, not this one) was genuinely offended that their yule log wasn't the highlight of the family christmas.

I think the tone is set in the first post when the words 'yule log' are used 6 times.

    :D that's amazing.

TBH, I think highlighting the words "yule log" makes it even better :)

Try not to let some peoples opinions upset you, I don't know why people have to always do it so unkindly. You are overacting a bit, its just a cake but I know how these things get over exaggerated in your mind. It would have been polite for her to have tried the cake and to have told you about it, you weren't "hounding" her by asking her twice (emotive language much??). However I do think you should just realise this isn't the same thing to her, and you can't work out what she's thinking and why she's thinking without asking her. You can either do just that, go for a coffee etc or you can score it up to experience and move on (which is what I would do). I'd tell the cake maker you think it LOOKED fantastic, but sadly your friend hasn't told you what it tasted like, how about she makes another (little one) for you to try!

I too thought the Yule Log was funny, but I also think it was a bit sad to see someone is a tizzy picked on, people post on here when they are upset, yes sometimes what they are upset about is daft as, but their feelings at the time of posting is often real, they can be told they are being silly kindly, but some people were just mean.
