This is interesting. It's dated February last year, when we were in the middle of all that terrible weather.........

    Quote:-
"Penguins given antidepressants to cope with the British weather.

Penguins have become so jaded by this winter’s relentless storms that this group of gloomy birds have been given antidepressants.

Humboldt penguins at the Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary in North Yorkshire were administered the pick-me-up after staff became concerned by their inability to cope with the ongoing wind and rain.

The pills are pushed into the gills of dead fish, which are then fed to the native South-American birds.

The centre's display curator Lyndsey Crawford told the Guzelian news agency: "Humboldts in the wild on the coast of Peru and Chile can be subjected to some pretty wild extremes of weather. What they don't get though is weeks of almost daily downpours and high winds.

"After the first week our birds were just a bit subdued, but after over a month now, they are thoroughly fed-up and miserable, much like the rest of us."

It is not the first time the penguins have been dependent on medication. Nearly three years ago, the birds relied on antidepressants after they were severely stressed by a break-in at their enclosure.

According to staff, misery has more detrimental effects on penguins’ natural defences than those of humans. Resultantly, they have been prescribed “uppers” to try and combat any more serious symptoms.

“They’re doing the trick so far, but we are all praying for the weather to change and at least a few successive days of sunshine to give the penguins the tonic they really need,” said Ms Crawford."
    End Quote.

WaS, when you go tomorrow, it might be worth asking if they had any problems with their penguins being depressed last year.

Aww... thank you! Love the birthday penguins (the good sort!) :):):)

Am bracing myself for another truly awful day of work. Am very tempted to leave my phone on voicemail and not even look at emails but that's not really a long-term solution. Am enjoying the first few quiet moments of the day before everyone starts calling me with ridiculous complaints.

Tea, would it help to treat each complaint as a form of therapy for the complainer? What I mean is, to see each complaint not so much as a complaint, but as that person feeling really bad about something, and what you feel you want to do is to help them feel better. That doesn't mean you have to put every complaint right, because I'm sure you can't, but approach the problem as if you're trying to help them feel better all round.
A bit like you might do on here if someone had a problem.......you, personally, can't fix their problem, but you can help how they feel about it.
I don't know if I'm explaining myself very well!
The idea, of course, is that you might then feel better about dealing with them! I'm sure some people will rant and rave no matter what!
If this is all rubbish, then just ignore it! :D
