Based on the last piece of Ikea furniture we assembled....... 190

Well, this is my moment to be Queen Smug of all the Smugs!
I am brilliant at assembling IKEA stuff! (Smugness oozing out of every orifice. TMI!)
I have a SYSTEM! It's an obvious one, really, (she says, smugly).
First requirement....floor space to spread.
Second..................lay out every component, count them and check them off the list. Yes, even every screw, bolt etc.
I repeat, lay them all out in rows, and in size order. (Otherwise it's easy to confuse which screw is which.) If necessary, label the different screws with a scrap of paper.
This ^^^^^ is probably the most important thing.
Start off slowly, slowly, slowly. Double check which way round pieces go, which is the top, which the bottom etc.
If anything is irreversible, like glue, do a dry run first. (Somebody was 'helping' me put some drawers together once, and despite me telling them to do a dry run first, they glued in some dowels without doing so, and the drawers were the wrong way round! I had to drill the dowels out and try to buy some more. Grrrr.)
Think, think, think at every turn.
Also, there are sometimes extra pieces in a pack. That's why it's important to count the pieces against the number given on the instructions, then if there are extras, put those aside.
End of super-smug smugginess!(I just lurve spiders!)

Hmmm. Have you ever ordered, and had delivered, 5 of these? http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S89019478/ (This isn't quite what we've bought, and of course what we bought was WHITE, but it's a quick way of illustrating). Where does the floor space come from after delivery, please? :rotfl: (note that they are 192 cm high.......)

Hahahahaha! Not a Jack video! I am running away from it, I'll be getting the beans out again! I still feel a little unreal in the kitchen.
Good luck on the cabinet making, JM. I have never attempted it in my life and as I fail at changing a plug I probably shouldn't.
Loving the animal stories today!

Lir - I agree with you about the konmarie method. I can't just keep the lovely things or I'd have no functional ones. My mop doesn't bring me joy but I still need it. The vertical folding is a revelation. I have much more space now. Tea, instead of folding flat and stacking you fold the clothes so they stand up and put them away like that and that way you can see what is in your drawer without rifling through it.
I also like the samosa plastos bag technique.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
More smugness
For years I've been rolling up all my T-shirts and vest tops that go in drawers. I suppose that's a sort of vertical way. It does make it a lot easier to see what's in there, and they don 't seem to crease as much either.
(Better stop before I suffocate myself with all this smugginess!)

Ooh I think I understand the vertical folding thing now - although am thinking you'd need quite a tightly packed drawer or everything would fall over? Or I might have totally misunderstood that.
I do something similar in my underwear drawer with those divider things, so I can see everything all nicely lined up0 -
And colour coded.... which has always amused my sister.0
