There was also a programme earlier that mentioned mindfulness and employers bringing it into the work place. And an interesting Buddhist perspective that secular mindfulness is inherently flawed in the context of big business etc because a) its a sticking plaster when better terms and conditions/shorter hours might be more effective and b) mindfulness needs an ethical framework to make sense that the type of mindfulness popping up in the workplace just can't have.

    Discuss.:D

I agree with point a ( in many cases, but not all.....many employers do offer incredible flexibility that in context overcomes many of the hurdles of working hours, and some working conditions are not bad! )

but not necessarily in agreement with point b, Lots of big corps do have quite surprisingly committed ethical frameworks both for their employees and for their immediate communities.
  • D'oh!

Forgot my phone this morning, so decided to have a WHOLE DAY without mobile phone (or match betting!)

Concert went well, but I am now too brain dead to discuss anything......:p Sounds as if I have some interesting radio programmes to catch up on, though!
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Oops! Glad the concert went well, though JM! It sounds like you need chocolate, or wine...

No for the chocolate, probably a wee bit too early for the wine.

Well, the weather here is so windy that once again I need to work from home. I hope they don't think I'm extracting the urine.

tealover.....ooooooh! Heard on the news that there may be a chocolate shortage in the coming year! You lot might want to think about stocking up! At the very least, prices might go up!)
(Doesn't bother me, as I don't like chocolate!)

Re. The wine.........depends what you're doing the rest of the day!
I had some alcoholic jelly for breakfast yesterday! Mind you, I'd just planned to rest all day!

Code, if there are weather warnings, you'd be daft to struggle into work! If you do the job from home, I can't see how they could object! Tough if they do!

Hope work are ok code. I find in most companies there's always one jobsworth who reckons you should turn up in the middle of a blizzard or biblical-level flood. Most people though are pretty sensible about these things. I think I get more done when I work from home anyway. Have been at work for nearly 3 hours so far today and have done nothing of any note. Need some motivation.

Good idea, Pyxis. I think I am going to order some. Practicality is more important than anything else at these times, I am sleeping on a plastic bin bag so glamour hardly comes into it even now! It also might mean poor WaSp doesn't feel the need to sleep in his chair for 3 days, he really can't cope with anything getting on him. (Although I do giggle when it happens because you would think that he has caught plague).

My husband (actually it may not have been him, whoever anyway), woke up with a sanitary towel stuck to his bum one morning :o :rotfl: This was a long time ago in case you think I take lovers now I'm married ;-)

  • Hahahahahaha! If that had been WaSp, Duke he probably would have just fainted!

Good morning all! We were locked in the bedroom earlier! After the constant beeping of the smoke detector for half of the night a very grumpy WaSp got up to deal with it (throw something at it) and the door handle fell off in his hand! I being ever helpful just burst out laughing because there he was standing staring at me in the bedroom holding a door handle. He managed to attach it well enough for us to get out. These flats are falling apart...
