Furniture still in store
And no vans available until 5th Jan. This may be good, however, as we don't have any storage yet. And the IKEA site was down yesterday so I couldn't order any!
I don't think that Kicheree recipe is particularly authentic - several typing errors (palin, anyone?) and it mentions soy sauce - which is guaranteed to make me vomooo as I'm allergic. IT HAS NO PLACE IN INDIAN COOKING! But other sites may have a better recipe.
Oooo yes, Coke, is EXCELLENT for norovirus type stuff as apparently it contains all the salts needed to rebalance your system! (Or you could just get rehydration salts if anyone in the household is up to going shopping...)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Perhaps everytime we make some we have to give some to Michael Palin? DH is obsessed with soy saucemEu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Good idea on flat coke, code! It is important that I keep ingesting sugar even if I can't eat because of the hypoglycaemia so that could work very well. I shall add it to WaSp's shopping list. I am dying of thirst today but forcing myself to sip fluids slowly.
I used to love Pepsi Max myself but my endocrinologist told me to stop drinking it. He tells me never to eat any kind of sugar-substituted, low fat foods which is annoying because I would like to use them to lose weight. But he is adamant that they do more harm than good and that in the right quantities the body is perfectly capable of taking the nutrition it needs from food and disposing of the rest. It doesn't need help! He told me off so much for years of yo-yo dieting with my ED, he said it is the worse thing that you can do because it causes long term metabolic problems. Now my diet is small portions of full-fat and full sugar foods but just in small, regular quantities.
Aw, sorry to hear about the house troubles, JM. hopefully you can get some storage today. You must be desperate to get settled.
When WaSp wakes up (he was up everytime I coughed last night, he's my hero) I shall ask him to make me a tiny portion of rice. A lot of foods are making me think ugh, horrid! but it doesn't change the fact that I am starving right now. I am craving sugar which means my blood sugar is up the spout but carbs are more effective in this case.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

About three years ago I found out I was intolerant to grapes and grape products. I was advised to give them up. This was a horrifying thought, as I had been drinking a lot of wine for over 20years.
However, I knew that it was contributing to various health problems like seriously disturbed sleep patterns, arthritic changes, loose bowels and indigestion, so I decided to give up all grape products, including wine.
Yes, it was quite hard at first. The main trick was not having any in the house, plus having other alcohol in case I really needed some. However, I found I wasn't that fussed about the alcohol part.
However, it only took about a week or so to break the habit, which really, really surprised me! It took a bit longer before I was off the hook completely, but I was surprised at how relatively easy it was.
After about a year I rediscovered real ales, which I had always enjoyed in the days before wine became so cheap and readily available. I do now sometimes treat myself to some bottles of real ale, although I do try to ration them as I find the alcohol content does contribute to the loose bowels and disturbed sleep patterns.
Now the only wine I have is a very, very, very occasional small glass of sparkling white for a special occasion, like a toast at a special dinner, or like on Christmas Day a glass of Buck's Fizz at breakfast.
Given that a lot of my holidays include wine with the included meals, I sometimes feel hard done by, especially as there's never anything else on offer of the soft drink variety, but I do feel so much better without it.
Anyway, so,what I'm trying to say, Code, is that it may be easier than you think! Try drinking lots of green tea with lemon instead?(I just lurve spiders!)

There is a real ale that I love, Pyxis - banana bread ale! WaSp has now learnt to get two bottles if he buys some because I drink most of his. It's wonderful!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

That's exactly what my diet is telling me to do WaS. Eat loads and loads to counteract the yoyo dieting. I don't know of it will make much difference while I'm on weight gain 4000 but I'm willing to give it a go. Beefcake beeefcaaake.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

I did find a lovely one in Marks, made with oranges! It's strong, so comes in small bottles, but is delish!(I just lurve spiders!)

It's by Wells, Pyxis! You have to try it, you will become addicted!
My endocrinologist totally altered my diet, code. He told me that altering my eating pattern was hugely important to my thyroid/metabolic control and I needed to teach my body how to deal with food on its own again. I went from dieting on low fat/no fat foods to eating butter, full fat yoghurt's and many types of foods that I had avoided for years, in fact if it is not heavy on chemicals no food is banned. He told me to break it down into 6 small meals (that is actual meals, not snacks. Snacking is also allowed within limitations inbetween the meals) a day so that I now eat every couple of hours, it has really stabilised my blood sugar, too. To my surprise I didn't lose weight but neither did I gain and my weight has now stayed steady for 4 years which is a miracle with me even though I am eating more than I have for years.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Another thing I have just remembered is that when I did stop the dieting and ate the 6 meals a day for 2 months I had awful stomach cramps and indigestion every day. I was told this is because my body had adapted to yoyo dieting and had to relearn how to deal with ordinary food amounts and nutritionally beneficial foods. He told me to stick with it and after 2 months all of the pain went away but do watch out for it, code if you eat more.
Quick disclaimer that this method won't work for everyone, I am just talking about me. This specifically applied to my body because I had wrecked my metabolism with dieting and binging for 20 years and even now I still cannot do the three meals a day other people can. My body had to be reminded how to deal with food again.
I have a sudden craving for a mince pie. I don't dare. If anyone wants a second Christmas we have festive treats up to our eyeballs. Neither of us have been able to eat them, I have fed the Christmas pudding with so much brandy by now that we are likely to keel over after once slice.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

MessedUp, looks like you struck gold!
And they obviously appreciate your efforts to do a good job! I should think so, too, as you're very conscientious!
9 days in a row does seem a bit steep, though. Was it a mistake? I don't know what the rules are, though. Mind you, if lots of people are off sick, I suppose it may be necessary.
Still, make sure you get your GP appointment. It may only mean a couple of hours out in the middle of a shift.
Mellymoo, what will you miss if you sleep?
