My mind was as sharp as a tack when I was doing a high powered job. I retired and know it's now a bit blunt: can't think as fast, my vocabulary has shrunk, my memory isn't as good, a reduction in socialisation. All of that is because I no longer need to use my mind at full throttle, a very clear case of use it or lose it.

  • My memory is soooo poor! I now remember, Errata, that I meant to reply to you earlier and ask the thread in general.....

I'm SURE I saw some awards for bad mental health reporting somewhere*. If not Mind, then who?

*A bit like the bad sex awards, but rather more serious. Google these if you want a good laugh. Obviously NSFW......

That is really interesting, I do wonder if part of the difficulties I have cognitively are because I am not challenged in that way anymore. Lose it or use it could very well apply in my case. I would still opt for the way I live now because trying to do more was just horrendous, nevermind a huge drain on the health service where I was cycling from crisis to crisis and it was also very stressful for those around me to witness. But at times I do miss being able to think quickly and clearly.

  • Very true, JM! Discussions like this are good for me (and hopefully others as well). On good days I do try to read as much as I can and attempt to learn new things, I think it does help me to keep thinking and pushing myself within safe boundaries.

This just means I have to post more, of course. You may all run for the hills.

Never come across them, but the place for flagging up bad MH reporting is the Press Complaints Commission. Anything else could result in a very expensive court case for any organisation making a public claim of bad reporting.
But ...... perhaps you could get the drains up and see if you can find something;) Good luck.

The forum and ability to access fora and other community things online are certainly is a god send for meaning no one has to be totally socially isolated. But for me its not a total replacement. I often miss a very busy social life and I miss that being on my terms.

    My question for tonight is:

Can people with mental health problems trust their intuition?

  • Good one, whitewing! My answer is that yes, I do but after much examining! I monitor my thoughts constantly anyway and usually my intuition doesn't seem to be too affected, but still I look at why I am feeling a certain way and consider whether another person would feel something similar in the same circumstances..
